This was just sent to us here at work.

WORST VIRUS EVER ---CNN ANNOUNCED

PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST !!

A new virus has just been discovered that has been

classified by Microsoft as the most destructive ever! This

virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by McAfee and no

vaccine has been developed yet. This virus simply destroys

Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital information for

its functioning are stored.

This virus acts in the following manner: It sends itself

automatically to all contacts on your list with the title

"A Card for You."

As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened, the

Computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the

ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are pressed, the virus

destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently destroying the hard

disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic

in New York, according to news broadcast by CNN. This alert

was received by an employee of Microsoft itself.

So don't open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You."

As soon as you get the mail, delete it!! Even if you know the

sender!!!

Please pass this mail to all of your friends.

WTF!!!! :angry

Most of these viruses only affect people that use Microsoft Outlook for their mail. I don’t know if that is the case for this one or not. But that is why I don’t use it!

I hate viruses. I had my laptop hooked up to high speed internet access at a hotel once and within 20 minutes someone was using it to host their music! Now I have a ton of firewall and virus software. What a pain in the ass!  :break

Lucky for us its a Hoax.

I would rather hear about it and find its not true than not hear about it and get hit with it unexpectedly.

Virus?  That would be too easy.  I've been down for 2 days....Power Supply bew (pop, smoke, flame) and took EVERYTHING with it.  Lost ALL of my data on 2 hard drives since neither will boot anymore, lost a DVD player, a CDRW, motherboard, RAM, CPU.....  Basically lost everything but the F'ing plastic POS case!  :angry  :break  :break

Oh well, I fixed it and upgraded quite a bit.  Now it's faster than it's ever been....but I lost alot of pictures and somewhere aroud 4000 songs (no they were not pirated, I transferred the Store purchased CD and transferred them to the pc) :rolleyes.  So what did I miss for the last 2 days? :)

Well, it may be a hoax, but I just deleted an e-mail from someone I didn't recognize (Maria) saying "click here for greeting" or something like that.  It looked like one of those cards you get on-line.  I'm not taking any chances and deleted it.   :guns

If you go from your task bar to the settings pop out menu, there is a category for "Network Connections."  If you click on that a screen will popup.  Mine showed a deal for LAN connections.  If you right click on that, you can select properties.  Another screen will popup with three tabs on the top.  The furthest one right is "Advanced" and there is a box you can check to turn the firewall on.  I'm not sure how great that firewall is.  I'm running Norton Personal firewall now and it seems to be picking up at least one attack on my computer per day now.   :break
