Only thing is the front end, it needs to be completely rebuilt, of course I wasn't told that up front!. but I came out ok with it anyhow, just didn't want to do that much work on it, but I need something to do anyhow, right!..   Posted by: Purple Jurk on June 08 2009,7:40 am Very Nice Art!      Looks to be in really good shape. It does need all new window seals and door rubber though!.. I'm not doing a basic rebuild on this thing since the factory suspension is weak, I'm replacing the whole works with tubular A arms, eliminating the strut rods, putting a rack in and disc brakes, should last a long time not to mention a huge increase in handling!.. Now for the pisser, it comes in silver or black powdercoat and wouldn't you know it, they're out of the black and it's a 3-4 week wait for the next batch to come back from the powdercoater.... Bought a CPP mini subframe kit but found out the lower a-arms work with stock steering and not the rack kit I got, so I had to order the a-arms from the ones I got the rack from, but there's a 4 week wait till they come back from the powdercoater!. I would have to send the whole kit back and turn around and order half of it back, they charge a 25% re stocking fee and it would cost for shipping, and that would be just about the same as what the basic kit cost, so it's actually cheaper to just sell the parts I don't need!.. Got a set of Mercruiser covers from a boat junk yard in OK, he had a few sets don't look too bad, a little TLC and they'll look like new!. Also picked up an intake manifold!.. Got the motor all cleaned up and painted, the oil pan was beat up big time but hopefully I got it straightened out enough and it don't leak!.. The thing was sitting for 10 years and the oil seperated and had no body left to it at all, it was just like water and the bottom of the pan looked like it was full of tar, makes for very short bearing life along with everything else, but I got it all drained out as much as I could, I'll run it for an hour with fresh oil to wash it out then dump it, then it should be ok!. I did pull a mian and rod cap and the bearings look like they just came out of the box, so it is a good motor!... It's not that much considering what you have over the factory junk front end. I take it the thing is all wore out just like mine huh? But if this is strictly a 1/4 mile car, there are alternatives that are not as pricey and really just as good!. I replaced everything even the steering column there is nothing left from the factory on mine, I could have kept the steering column and the upper A-arms, just didn't want to spend all the time cleaning and rebuilding them, didn't really need a rack either,  just cleans everything up and makes it nicer on the road!.. Looked through the paper work and it's right around $2700 for the whole works, that's from the steering column to the brakes, but the CBR kit is the big expense but I figured since I was buried in this thing I may as well go all out on it!. But for a 1/4 mile car you can do it for almost half, even changing to a rack you can use the factory cross member, then you can use a rear sump pan. Oh, and you don't need a fancy tilt column either!.. I felt like a theif all the way to the bank. I really didn't care which way they did it as long as it worked and didn't come back. Didn't have a lot of bushing problems, most were probably to new. Apparently IL6's use V-8 mounts and are mounted higher in 2nd gen Novas, 1st gen sits lower and the pan hits on the passenger side, maybe get the motor back in over the weekend if it's not too cold!.. Now the question is why was it slipping???, could be the lip seals on the pistons have hardened up, but there is no signs of excessive heat but I'll find out for sure when pull the pistons out, could be dirt in the valve body??? ain't gonna mess with it since it's not going back in!. What I'm thinking is it went in for service and someone decided to adjust the POS TV cable and messed it up???... But whatever, the whole thing is like new, bushings have no wear whatsoever same for sealing rings!.. So it looks like a paper and rubber and frictions and it's good to go, except for a couple of tweaks here and there of course!.. The tranny is done except for the valve body, had to order new plate gaskets(back ordered of course)finally got them after a two week wait and wouldn't you know it they sent the wrong ones   But TCI were good about it they sent a replacement out right away, should get them Tuesday I hope!.. Also with the new offset uppers I now can have positive caster without worying about tire rub on the fender!.. Now gotta make some cool caps to cover the stems!...
