Wife and I took some time off and did an Oregon Sand Dunes run. What a fantastic place. We spent about a week there, motel'd it, hit the tourist spots like the museum of barn yard oddities, gravity hill, seal caves etc.
Almost 50 miles tall by 10 miles wide dunes right on the water. Rarely got above 65 deg. F.
We stayed at the Coquille Indian hotel and casino. Our room had a 14 ft by 14 ft view window of Coos Bay. Service, food quality, prices off the hook fantastic.
Some goofy blue laws. You can carry a drink around the casino, but it can't have a label on it like a beer or a Mikes Hard Lemonaid bottle.
The tribes language was easily romanized, and an easy one to learn says the wife. I'd add, perhaps easy compared to most Indian languages.
Gas and diesel was 50 to 60 cents a gal cheaper there, and no self serve. Always found appreciative, helpful kids pumping the gas.
A group of writers from the Chapell show were performing one night at the Casino sports bar stage, and I sent them a round of drinks with a Semper Fi.
Most of them are former Marines and eventually came over and sat with the wife and I. It was a hell of a fun and funny night.
We want to do it again.
