75 Percent of Young Americans Are Unfit for Military Duty
Posted: 11/3/09
WASHINGTON (Nov. 3)

Are America's youth too fat, dumb or dishonest to defend the nation against its enemies?

The latest Army statistics show a stunning 75 percent of military-age youth are ineligible to join the military because they are overweight, can't pass entrance exams, have dropped out of high school or had run-ins with the law.

So many young people between the prime recruiting ages of 17 and 24 cannot meet minimum standards that a group of retired military leaders is calling for more investment in early childhood education to combat the insidious effects of junk food and inadequate education.

I'd go one step further and say 75% of all Americans are too fat or stupid for the military. But I'm sure basic training will whip 'em in to shape! lol

Jan and I just happened to talk about this the other day.....most about how we as children never stay indoors after school. we were always outside doing something.
Sadly, we've allowed them to become lazy...by providing the electronic distractions.

I'm pretty sure my kid has every electronic gadget out there...and I'm amazed by how much money I could have saved by not buying them, they just sit there  :break

The novelty wears off quickly I suppose.  :rolleyes

Fortunately she's involved in softball so there's batting practice twice a week and conditioning 3 times. This weekend we're going riding so she'll get another good work out there.

The one up in college tells us she's in the best shape she's ever been in, since I wouldn't let her take her car...she rides her bike everywhere  :good

Now me, on the other hand...I'm starting an exercise program....right after I finish this donut!   :laugh

We do that to a certain degree, like I mentioned in KC's thread about his new printer.

Bikes were always good....especially with baseball cards stuck in the spokes to make that cool sound.

Wonder how many $500.00 cards I destroyed with that stunt.  :banghead  :banghead
