So last riding season my niece and my daughter ended up killing both the banshee quads, on separate trips. Both felt as though one cylinder had lost compression......so I simply figured I had a couple top ends to redo. Took the newer bike apart and sumbich the bottom end was wasted. Found a forum for Banshee's and found a guy selling a used crank for $100......yeah! saved about $400.
Today I take apart bike #2, and sumbich if that one didn't eat a crank too :banghead  :pissed  :banghead . Back to perusing the Banshee forums for another crank.

In the 40 years I've ridden motorscycles/quads I have never had a bike loose a bottom end.....now I have two :finger

Sorry to hear that Zig. That IS pretty unusual... top AND bottoms  :beat

Wanna buy my Raptor? I'm overloaded with toys right now and my youngest wants to move up to a 450 four stroke so her YZ 125 will be up for sale soon too. That will make 4 excess vehicles  :(

I'm thinking about getting something with a cage...  :D

Headed out tomorrow night for a weekend n the dirt  :good

Might want to add some friction modifiers this time. Also your probably getting silica (dirt/dust/sand) into the oil some how :stupid Like you said wipeing out the lowerend on a motorcycle engine is pretty rare.

My buddy just picked up an '06 Honda CRF 250R for $1300 for his kid's B-day.....except for the engine, bike is in perfect condition, rubber is almost new.

The guy cooked the top end...which is an easy fix. Especially since both my buddy and I always have an extra fully built head on hand just in case.  :good

Got this puppy waiting in the wings for one of mine to go:

That's what makes the most sense. I've cooked several top ends, but not the bottom.  :rolleyes

In both cases they over-reved them for extended distances. The bottoms let loose which in turn started the debris field of destruction in the top ends. Each having lost just one side.

I should have known better with my niece but my daughter didn't realize there were 6 gears in the Banshee and was keeping up with the guys on motorcycles in Ocotillo, probably never above 3rd gear fully rapped out. :rolleyes  :banghead

Haven't gotten my fingers greasy in some time, I'm overdue I suppose :laugh

Lose bottom ends in my Dwarf car all to often. Then again we run 12,000 rpm's at a minimum. When they go, theres nothing left.

Looks pretty neat at night as they usally go up in flames too. Small oil fire covering car. Nights done so start the party early, BBQ and drink all night. Getting up in the morning to survey the damage is always an eye opener. :eek

Ha, I almost ended the weekend with no quad left to sell!

A couple of my son-in-law's friends thought they were jumping on His quad (same model) to take a sunset ride....and never checked the gas tank.

By the time they walked back to camp for gas it was pitch black out and they went back with another quad and gas, but searched for hours but still couldn't find my quad... :rolleyes

Then a few knuckleheads thought they would have better luck in their trucks! We sat at the camp fire and just laughed - listening to them slam into bushes and spin wheels in gullies out in the darkness....still no quad.

I just told them that wherever it is...it'll be there in the morning.

Then the guy tells me, "I thought it would be easy to find...I left the lights on so we could find it".  :beat

Now he owes me a battery.  :laugh

Actually, I'm pretty sure this guy is one of those who never learns....a while back he did manage to correctly select my son-in-law's quad to take his girlfriend for a ride into town to get something to eat...

...about 4 hours later and sunset fast approaching we had to go looking for him. We found him...in a bar, drinking and having a good ol' time. :beat

Said that they were going to leave earlier but he had left the ignition switch on and the battery died - "But don't worry, I bought a new one...for $175!  :eek "

He's getting off easy this time. Since he wasn't stranded he doesn't have to pay a King's ransom...I found one on-line for $45 - what it should cost.  :rolleyes

They Always Travel In Pairs And Usually Have Communications Of Some Sort.....

In the buggy days we never went out solo, always two buggies and each had a tow strap, we've towed each other in more than once!.. :banghead

There was a stretch where I towed back MalibuKen pretty much every time we went out......he sold that jinxed buggy.

I had one of them before!. :banghead  :laugh Didn't sell it though, just got pissed and stripped it and re did the whole thing, then I started doing the towing!.. :laugh
