Just got back from a few days in Havi picking up my new boat. I made a deal a while back with Legend Marine (Dallas) on an 08 Fountain Lightning repo (new never sold boat). I flew in to Dallas a couple weeks ago, inspected the boat, found a few flaws which they agreed to fix and closed the deal. The flaws were minor-clean the boat, charge the batteries, run it, scan it and be sure its ready to go. The night before delivery we stopped to check out the boat at the motel the driver was staying at (without telling him). We found amongst other things that the batteries were still to low to turn the motors over?! Â Â Next morning early I get a call to tell me the boat needs a boost?????? Or maybe new batteries. The driver knew we were at the boat because we left items in it. He then tells me he needs my credit card number so he can take it to Interstate Battery and get new batteries!!!!!!!!! I told him thats not happening. He told me the BOSS (this asshole Greg who runs the place) said if I want the boat to start its my problem. I was stunned, like a dummy I had paid them in full for everything and had no leverage. New boat, won't even start and the dealer says F you! After making the rounds of all the battery stores in Havi and having tests done I find one of the batteries is STONE DEAD and will take no charge whatsoever-now I know I have been set up. Greg decided send the F'ing boat, don't care if it runs. I was also told they had "gone through everything" to be sure it was right. What a joke! After we finally located a battery (bad fit etc) so we could fire up the motors and launch the boat-more problems. I was idling away from the ramp, overwhelmed by all the guages-I had never driven a dual engine boat. Scanning the dash I noticed the port engine had no water pressure!!!!!!!!!!! $hiat, shut down. Under the hood we found sea strainers (new to me) and one WAS SHUT OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Â Â Really good job by the shop going thru this boat. Did not even find that one engine was not getting water. Obviously they did F all in their shop check like not even run it. Â Now I need a sea pump on one motor. Like I said at the start-Beware the Legend Marine! Sorry for leaving you hanging Ken, I had a bad weekend sorting out all this crap.

Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then defeat you with experience.

Quote (gearhead @ April 04 2010,12:09 am) | Yes. He is doing the sea pump on the port engine. One more detail on my experience with Legend. As my son is towing the boat to the ramp, he is looking in the mirror and tells me something is wrong with the front trailer tire on the driver side. At the ramp we inspect the inside of the tire and find a 3 inch cut in the sidewall. Â Â What next? I am liking that slimeball Greg (Legend) more and more. |
Ummm... didn't they pull the boat all the way out from Texas? While the guy sounds like a typical slick willy used car salesman, it's possible the damage happened on the way out and no one noticed.
This is why if I buy big ticket items out of town, I take delivery at the sellers location. And anything as spendy as a boat, there is a purchase agreement spelling out what will be fixed upon delivery if need be. I'd even go as far as using an escrow company. You just can't take anyone at their word anymore, which is really kind of sad.

All good advice. I think what bugs me the most is that I got put together and I did not see it coming.
