My apologies for the long, meandering narrative, and I completely understand if you skip reading it; but it was something that I needed to put out and get off my chest.
And thank you Doug for allowing us the freedom on "your" boating forum to lay these things out. (Now if ya choose to kick me out because of my "abuses", I rescind that "thank you". J/K)

I have never stated that I'm behind Obama anymore than I have been behind any of the other buffoons that have sat in the Oval Office. I'm just of the opinion that all of this petty $hit that is goin' around and this abyssmal divide between fellow countrymen is goin' to be the ruin of this nation; not any bills or laws set down by ANY administration.

To say that it is counter-productive would be an understatement. We're so busy with all the infightin' and rhetoric about conservativism and liberalism, Republican or Democrat, haves or have nots, etc., etc. etc., that we are losing our grasp of what's most important.

Point-in-hand; the Health Reform that they're pushin' so hard. Everybody is so wrapped up bitchin' about it and yet there hasn't been one viable alternative laid before us. Same goes w/the economic situation. Nothin' even remotely intelligent has come of any of the protestations or counter-proposals. The bulk of the argument is leave it at "status-quo". That my friends, would be the true suicide here. The real reform should have been targeted at the insurance and pharmeceutical companies. This is the source of what's really wrong w/healthcare in the US today.

Practically everything that's happened since Carter has been about partisanship and not this country. Carter; not even worth a mention in any argument for or against his admin. Reagan; I'm sorry fellas, but I believe his deregulation and relinquishing things into the citizens' hands has been one of the major disasters of the 20th century. If the populace based their decisions on the ideal "free enterprise", there would be no problem. But the decisions made at levels by people who don't even know that people like us, day-to-day, paycheck-to-paycheck, hand-to-mouth salt-of-the-earth workin' class people exist. Their decisions have mostly been based on pure, unaldulterated, obscene greed w/no concern who may or may not survive. And unfortunately, IMO, this is the only time that the "trickle-down effect" has really made an impact.

Geoge Bush, Sr., again this is just my opinion, was about as effective a president as Jimmy Carter. Nothing really memorable nor earth-shattering during his tenure other than his failure to expulse Hussein from power after the first Gulf War. Oh; and he fathered that moron of a son who I believe is guilty of the finacial rape of this country along w/his many undeserving-of-office cronies. They should all be brought to trial for their actions.

I had little problem w/Clinton. Though he may have been amoral while in office, which btw I believe is an issue between him and Hillary as I don't believe that it truly affected his decisions regarding policy, as I and my Family prospered under his administration, though it probably had little to do w/who was or wasn't in office. But his signing of the NAFTA agreement into law was, again IMO, devastating. Not because it opened up the borders for trade; but rather it exposed an inability and/or unwillingness of Americans to compete at the same levels that our competitors are. Now that in itself would not have been a problem save for the fact that not enough consumers were/are willing to pay 2X, 3X, 10X, or even more for the same product that they could buy from a foreign competitor; even if it was of inferior quality. Economics, in many cases, makes that decision for many ofm us.

I won't even begin to address the most recent Presidency and his cabinet before Obama's. I think y'all know eher Bush, Jr. stands within my opinions.

So there ya go. That's a "small" piece my opinion and I'm sticking to it. I beleive that I have based a great majority of it on my own rationale and not the blatherings of the morons in DC or the media; but rather on "history".  I am also aware that I may lose some "friends" because of it; but I honestly believe that if we as Americans don't begin to compromise amongst ourselves, we are essentially "dead" as a nation of meaning; for it is truly the people who govern this land and as long as we allow thepoliticians and other "industries" to dictate their prtisan BS upon us, there is little hope for a future that even remotely resembles our gloried past.

Nice and thought driven post Gig. :good

Complacency in the Oval Office is the real cause.
Its my opinion the Clinton Administration was the King of complacency. The economy rolling along at 100mph tends to make people not plan for or expect a downturn.
His wonderful thought of making it possible for any smuck to buy homes they couldn't afford was the real reason for this condition which manifested itself during the latter part of BushJr's term. Him signing into law the ability for all the "creative" loans, stated incomes vs proof of income, yada, yada, yada based on the assumption that the economy was indestructible.
I'd guess 80% or more of the failed house notes were people that should either never have been able to buy with their income/credit or the made gambling decisions. Neither which should have been made available.  I'm not even going to touch   much about how many didn't even know what they were signing or the actual consequence of their loan, overinflated home values so they could qualify, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. Greed, Greed, greed.......its a killer.

In general, the ones we have voted into Office have quit listening to the "little people". Where's our Robin Hood? We sure could use someone like him. Ah, he's hiding in Sherwood Forest eating Top Ramen waiting for the depression to end.

You really want to affect change in this country?  Vote out the House of Representatives in November... if things don't change in two years, vote that lot out and put another in it's place.  Do the same thing with incumbent Senators.

Politicians need to realize they work for us, not vise versa...

Honestly, many people need a good civics lesson in how this country is run.  The only real power the President has is to  veto or approve bills and command the armed forces... other then that he essentially serves at the pleasure of the congress and takes care of the day to day business of running the US.  In other words, he can't do a whole lot without the blessing of the legislature (the whole checks and balances thing).

Gig... I'm tired of the whining myself...

"The age of statesmen is gone.... God save the Republic ... from the buffoon and gawk ... we have for President."

That was the New York World in 1864, commenting on the renomination of Abraham Lincoln.
