My boss has offered me raise of 10% or a new company vehicle along a 5% raise.  My current vehicle is 7 years old with 63K.  It is really not in bad shape but it is a Dually and I do not need it any more.  However I would still need a heavy truck to haul stuff for work and play.   I am on the fence.

Kind of depends on what type of car he wants to put you in, you might not even like it. Seen the Truly Nolen company cars. :beat

the percentage thing was an example I pulled out of the air.

4K plus a 2010 Ford F-350 Crew Cab...  Loaded..

8K  No Truck.

I have a new truck option next year too but no idea about the money situation.  I would like a new truck so I can loose the dual wheels.  It is hard to park..  However my current truck is fine mechanically and I could use the cash for remodeling my house...

With just that basic info, I think I'd do the truck and 4K, assuming that the boss is paying insurance and gas and such. With the 8K, you might end up in a higher tax bracket and lose 4K anyway. Sell the dually and put that into the house.

The current truck I have is company owned so everything is already getting paid for.  So I cannot sell the truck either.  The boss owns it.   I am under the 50% tax bracket.

"My current vehicle is 7 years old with 63K." My mistake, thought it was your truck. If he owns and maintains both trucks it's really a no brainer, take the money. Bottom line is he wants to pay you $4K to replace a perfectly good truck next year vs. this year. :beat

I'd take the 8k and drive whatever they put me in....up to a degree. Heck, you could make due for a year with the dually.

After taxes, 4k doesn't let you remodel much.

But that's just me.  :D

I do not hate the truck.. It would be nice to go to a drive through or an automatic car wash and not worry about how big the parking lot is if I go somewhere.

I will keep the truck..    :pirate

Take the money, I got a dually and I go anywhere with it no problem, besides a new truck won't buy any groceries!...

I guess it's safe to hijack this now that he's made up his mind?

OK,

Here's the sitch - kinda similar actually.

Son-in-law took my advice and contacted a lawyer to Lemon Law his '06 F250.
Ford came through Big Time and is buying it back for the original purchase price...PLUS interest, taxes and registration fees for the whole time!

Damn, I'm impressed.

Anyway, he had his heart set on getting a brand new F350 dually...I cautioned him about diving in with a brand new (for 2011) vehicle - new Ford motor and all.

I found him a killer deal on a loaded 2001 F350 dually with the 7.3. It's clean as a whistle and belongs to the owner of a shop that specializes in Ford trucks. The owner rarely drives it and it wasn't up for sale until I asked.

I'm trying to convince him to save about 40k....he just has his heart set on spending a ton of money over the next 5 years!  :banghead

Forgot to add, a new truck is 3 months out....he'll be on a list.

I told him buy the 2001 to get by - Memorial day is coming and he needs a truck to haul his rig to the desert.

Worse case scenario - he could probably sell the 7.3 for more than he paid and still buy the new one when it is available.

What else can I say to make him see the light?
