Quote (WATERDOG @ July 08 2010,1:16 pm) | Quote (David @ July 08 2010,12:32 pm) | Yesterdays quake was by Anza and was not a deep quake. Â It shook us here in Palm Desert a lot. Â As a matter of fact dropped some wire cages around lights fixtures and several things fell from the counter tops. |
When this hit us, basically one good jolt, I jumped on the computer to see where it came from. The very first maps showed it just South of your house.
BTW, The Mom will be coming with us this weekend. Her first Summer trip ever. Sure hoping she lives though it. See you Sunday. |
I was on the phone with a guy in Carson when my chair jumped...I cursed and said we just got hit with a quake, he was just saying he was feeling it as my house jolted hard..........LOL, then he cursed too and put me on hold. Half minute later he comes back on the line sounding kinda freaked out.
Ain't life Grand? Treat it that way. The Love of my Life, Jan.

SAN DIEGO - A magnitude-5.4 earthquake rocked San Diego Wednesday, giving buildings and roadways throughout the county a good shaking for several seconds, causing a couple rockslides but leading to no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.
The temblor, centered about 13 miles north-northwest of Borrego Springs, struck at 4:53 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The shaker was felt in Riverside County and as far north as Palmdale in northern Los Angeles County.
A rock slide was reported near the 14-mile marker of Montezuma Valley Road near San Felipe Road with several large boulders down, approximately a foot and a half in diameter. Also, a large boulder, approximately 4 foot by 5 foot, fell 1000 feet from a cliff, bounced across Old Highway 80 and left a 3 foot by 1 foot deep hole in the 8-inch concrete near Buckman Springs Road. The rock had enough force to break two mature oak trees

Earthquake warning for California fault line proves accurate July 8, 2010 | 9:01 am
California earthquake experts have been saying for weeks that the 7.2 temblor on Easter Sunday in Mexicali had placed pressure on two Southern California fault lines -- the Elisnore and the San Jacinto -- making quakes there more likely.
They proved prescient.
The 5.4 earthquake that rattled Southern California on Wednesday evening appeared to hit along the San Jacinto fault, officials said. That fault runs roughly from the Salton Sea area northwest through the San Jacinto Mountains toward San Bernardino.
Scientists are now studying how the Mexicali quake changed the pressure of various Southern California fault lines. One questions: Did the temblor make quakes more likely along more dangerous fault lines, such as the Whittier — which produced the deadly 1987 Whittier Narrows quake? Scientists are particularly interested in the Whittier fault because it's connected to the Elsinore and runs under heavily populated areas.
The 5.4 quake on Wednesday wasn't exactly an aftershock of Mexicali.
"We've been calling those 'triggered earthquakes,' " Caltech seismologist Kate Hutton said, referring to temblors north of the aftershock zone that runs from the Gulf of California to Ocotillo, Calif., near the Mexican border.
"We've been able to see an increase in activity," Hutton said. Wednesday's earthquake was the largest to hit the Elsinore and San Jacinto fault zones since the April 4 shaker.
