Is there a reason why the Lake Havasu School District starts the school year so early?
I'm from Washington and most schools here start after Labor Day and finish in mid-June. Havasu starts a month earlier and finishes a month earlier - is this the pattern for all schools in AZ or is Havasu unique?

I have a friend in Queen Creek his daughter started 2 and Half weeks ago. Seems like they are starting earlier every year. I remember starting right around Labor day.

Thanks for all the replies.
I mistakenly assumed the early start of the school year was unique to Havasu.
On a different note, if the shortening of the summer break is a trend, I wonder if this will impact tourism in Havasu in the future?

The reason I've been told AZ schools get out at the first of May and return the first/middle of August is weather. May, June, and July are historically the hottest months, and it saves the school districts money not having to run the AC on the buildings.

We get out on the last day of May, and go back Aug 11 for the kids and Aug 5 for teachers and support staff.
So just 2 months and 11 days here....

Marana schools get out sometime in the first full week of May, so pretty close to 3 months... the kids start back next Monday.
