Today I recieved an email supposedly from the USPS. It claimed that a package I sent on September 19 could not be delivered because of a bad address and instructed me to open the attached file to download and print a new shipping label so I could bring it to the Post Office and properly address the package. Luckily I'm smart enough (just barely) to know that I didn't send any packages on that date. I went to the USPS website and on the customer service page found the following message:

"Customers may be receiving email messages that allege to be from the U.S. Postal Service that contain fraudulent information about attempted or intercepted package delivery.

If opened, the messages instruct customers to click on a link to find out more about when they can expect delivery of their "package." Simply delete the message without taking any further action.

If you click on it, it will install  trojan downloader code that can compromise the security of your computer and contacts.


The Postal Service Inspection Service is aware of the problem and working hard to resolve the issue and shut down the malicious program.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused our customers. For additional information on the virus or to report receipt of a message, please contact 1-800-ASK-USPS."


If you recieve this email DO NOT OPEN IT!
