LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ - Two people are dead and another injured in two separate incidents on Lake Havasu near the Arizona-California border.

Lake Havasu officials say a person drowned late Saturday afternoon in Copper Canyon on the California side of the lake.

No other details were available including the person's name.

Also, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office says a woman was killed and a man injured when a boat struck them near the mini sandbar on the north end of the lake.

Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Ross Tarangle tells the Lake Havasu City Today's News-Herald that the boat operator was maneuvering near shallow water when he struck a woman.

Tarangle says the propeller hit the woman in the upper body and she died of the injuries. He says a man jumped in to help her and also was struck by the propeller. He was reported in stable condition at a Las Vegas hospital.

This isn't even close to what the witnesses say happened. There's a 20 minute tape of what everybody, LEO's, EMT's,ect on both PB and RDP. All were DOA by the recording. Code 109 = dead body.

I was listening to the scanner all day and had just turned it off to go get the BBQ ready.  :eek

This from BoatCop,

"Unfortunately, it's true.

Jet boat coming into the Keys, driver let off and momentum carried the boat into/under the finger dock (not diving board) sticking out from Peters' patio. (No steering on a jet without throttle)

Passenger in the bow seat caught between the dock and the console of the boat. Slow speed impact. Weight and inertia caused blunt force trauma/internal injuries which proved to be fatal.

Victim is a 39 year old male from Nevada. Driver was negative for alcohol/drugs.

This was a tragic accident. The wife and kids are out of the country and other family is in Washington State.

Please leave the jet-boat comments for another thread. "

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office in California has released the name of a San Diego resident who is missing and presumed drowned on the Colorado River.

Tyrell Blake, 26, is believed to have fallen out of a boat when it hit a wake about one mile south of Jack Smith Park near Needles early Saturday night.

Efforts to locate Blake's body proved unsuccessful Saturday and Sunday.

Sgt. Tim Lotspeich said Blake was not wearing a life vest and that an accidental death investigation continues.

A relatively quiet Labor Day weekend on the Colorado River in the Parker area was marred by a fatal boat accident Saturday evening.

La Paz County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Alan Nelson said a 39-year-old Nevada man was fatally injured when the boat he was riding in struck a dock at the entrance to Moovalya Keys. The accident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The man was treated by Buckskin Fire Department and transported by River Medical to La Paz Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Nelson said the accident is under investigation by the sheriff’s boating safety officers. He added alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor. The boat’s operator showed a blood alcohol content of 0, and displayed no signs of impairment.

As of Sunday morning, there had been a total of 17 bookings into the La Paz County Jail for the weekend. Eight were alcohol-related: three for DUI, one for extreme DUI, one for aggravated DUI and three for underage consumption. There were also three drug-related arrests. There were two traffic arrests, two for disorderly conduct, one for indecent exposure, and one for outstanding warrants.

Law enforcement then responded to Copper Canyon at 4:32 p.m. for a man who jumped from the cliffs and didn’t immediately resurface. A witness pulled the man to the surface, who was then transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police are searching for any information related to a stolen boat and trailer.

A California resident returned to his hotel near South Acoma Boulevard and Swanson Avenue Aug. 27 to find his boat and trailer stolen. The owner had been away from the hotel from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and reported the missing property upon his return.

Neither the boat nor trailer was secured, according to Lake Havasu City police.

Police do not have any information regarding the number or description of suspects.

The boat was a 2003, 29-foot Shockwave watercraft (HIN # SKG29471B303) with California boat registration of CF7492PV. The 2003 Extreme boat trailer (VIN # 5DBBB31333R000012) has a California registration of 4EA5425.

Anyone with information regarding the stolen property is asked to call Det. Earl Chalfant at 928-855-4111 or 928-854-TIPS to make an anonymous report. Rewards are offered if information leads to arrests and convictions of suspects of a crime.
