As we go through life, there comes a time when you have to say "goodbye" to your parents.  While dealing with this reality is never easy, it does give one the opportunity to reflect upon what they had given to others throughout their life.

Lost our mom yesterday to old age.  She now joins dad who passed six years earlier.  Both we're given the absolute best care available and lived in comfort during their final days.

We all owe much of who/what we are today to our upbringing.

My love of the outdoors, camping and fishing, boating and water skiing, are a direct reflection of what we experienced as Frank & Shirley's kids.

They were children of the Great Depression Era.  Mom was a foster child, never met her real dad, and Father lived with his cousins in Canada for many years during those tough times.

Dad was a Cadillac mechanic.  He had a boring machine and would go shop to shop doing valve jobs.  Later in life he became an electrician during the IE housing boom in the '50s.

Mom took in laundry and did ironing for others while raising us kids.  She also worked at May Co on the week-ends for extra cash.

While we never had many of life's luxuries, we never went "without"; they made sure of that.  If they had enough cash for gas, we were out on the road as a family spending time with nature together.

I'm so thankful to have had them in my life.

Sounds like you had great times with your folks and took good care of your Mom. Sorry for your loss. But now they are back together.
