So my side $hiat when I'm not not boating is old Toyotas I spend too much money on.
So I have a 1985 4runner I built years ago, it wheels great, but now I'm retired I have time and money, so I'm going from the original build 35" tires to 40" and new wider axles, mind you this is still a very loose street truck.

Today I started cutting up the axle I bought. I'm a cheap ass so it's a used T100 Toyota rear.
The start is to strip it down, cut the perches off, pull the center chunk.

Looks like a cool project. We talked about selling the unused boat and getting a SxS and chase down ghost towns and stuff like that. We agreed we don't have time to float where are we going to get time to run the desert.  :laugh

I'm generally cheap, we started with an old sand car converted to a desert runner, then moved to a RINO but outgrew it. I couldn't stomach the cost of a SXS and looking now they are what $50K or more.

So I bought an old 4runner, I'm up the three of them now. and I'm not sure I've saved any money.

With retirement, i really do have money and time, my health is good, and I'm a hands on guy. So on the list is to rebuild my crawler, and this may sound dumb, But the POS competitive trailer under my boat will get a makeover.  possible 3rd axle, and stiffen it up so it does not look like a wet noodle going down the freeway.

To be clear  The Competitive trailer under my 22' placecraft is just above a wooden cart to transport my boat.

Figured out my cell phone pics must be too big so lets try this.
Here is the housing with the spring perches torched off and smoothed.

Very Cool!!!! I like seeing things like this being done. I can't weld, but always wanted to learn so I could make things to go along with doing upholstery like stools, chairs, tables or what ever.

Kid was pressing bushings out of his radius arms and was using a sleeve that was too large and had the press maxed out. I thought I had taught him how to use it, but apparently not, He's lucky he didn't get hurt, Lesson learned
