I Just got a phone call.  My nephew that is in the 82nd Airborne will be flying back to Ft. Bragg, NC arriving at 1:30am tomorrow morning.  Then, in a few weeks he'll be home here :jumpie  :jumpie   He has been in Iraq since February of last year and has sustained a knife wound out there, but stuck it out and made it back after a full year  :good

The bad thing is, my other nephew that is in the 1st Marine Div. is being deployed to Iraq this month to replace the 82nd Airborne :(   My parents flew down to Camp Pendleton today to pick up his truck and drive it back home here.

I know that it's a tough job and nobody wants to see their relatives go into a combat zone, but someone has to do it and it is because the brave people that are serving, and have served, in the US Armed Forces, that we are a free and great nation.  

My continued support and prayers go out to the brave men and women that risk their lives to protect our freedom.  God Bless Our Troops and God Bless the USA :good

Do you know what battalion of the 1st Marines is going??

I've got a cousin in the 1/4, he got back in September, but last we heard he wasn't going back.  

Congrats on the one nephew getting home safe.   :good

Glad to hear he's coming home. Sorry to hear another is going.......but ya gotta love these boys for what they do! My brother is in the Air Force and was in Desert Storm and this one. Keep up the good work boys and God bless us all! :good

Yeah, it was an eventful day.....A rather typical day for me :rotflmao  :rotflmao   Tomorrow will be more of the same.  

Oh yeah, got a call from my niece about 15 minutes ago... She just finished boot camp in December (US Air Force) and ......Doesn't want to go to Iraq  :)  
As you can tell, we are a very close family.  My nephew that is in the Marines I raised for a while (age 6 months to 1 1/2 yr) after my brother committed suicide, and then he moved in with my mom.  
My nephew that is coming home from Iraq tonight has pretty much been raised by my mom. and his sister, the one in the Air Force, lived with me for a while and then moved in with my mom (Their mother, my sister, died from alcohol poisoning)

Yep....it's been an eventful day, just another day in an eventful life :rolleyes  :D

He is in the 1st Marine Div. 2/4 WPNS Co  based out of Camp Pendleton.  I just spoke with my mother who saw him today and their latest orders are to deploy to Irag on Feb. 7 (This Saturday).  Also, it is my understanding that there are units being sent back that were in the original Occupying force from the 1st Marine Div.  The 1st Marine Div will be taking over the area west of Baghdad that the 82nd AB was in control of.  This area is the most dangerous and includes Fallujah and is more commonly known as the "Sunni Triangle"

Good luck to all of our troops and my prayers are with each and every one of them for a safe return home.

Yes, I agree.  But, I do not know all of the details and if the situation exists where the Strongest and Best Trained Military Force in the World is required to ensure our freedom and peace here in the USA, I'll support the troops no matter where they go, how they get there, and however long it takes. :good

I just now hung up the phone but he'll (Nephew in Marines) be calling me back later tonight.

I did ask him for ya Sleek-Jet who was going right now on this round of deployments and he said that he thinks that the 1/4 will be going in 7 months when they (2/4) return as part of the 7 month rotation plan. As the 2/4 returns in 7 months, the 1/4 will be deploying to Iraq to replace them.

My son best friend is in the 4th LAR and was the first ones into Bagdad and tecret(sp) he may also be going back he got home in sept.

No Art, she went to Biloxi, Mississippi.  She is still there now currently.

Not sure yet Art if my niece wants to be a lifer or not.  She hasn't been in long enough to know what she wants.

I did just get a call from my nephew in the 82nd AB who just retuned from Iraq.  He was telling me about some of the combat operations he was involved in and told me that he has a complete Iraqi Uniform souvenir, with medals, wings, and all, from when they seized an Army base in Iraq :jumpie .  he also told me about an encounter with an Iraqi suicide bomber that tried to ram his Avenger with a mini-van.....The Avenger won that battle :D  :good  he said the Iraqi was literally amputated from the waist down and he has some pictures of the ordeal that he'll show me when he gets back home in June :jumpie .  It was great to hear from him after not speaking with him for a year.  His enlistment is up in June and he is not going to re-enlist because he feels that they are stretching the military too much.  He said that his unit is already scheduled to deploy to Iraq again in 6 months :rolleyes .  He is currently a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne, 2/4 ADAR (Air Defense Artillery Regiment) and he said that he won't get promoted again unless he re-enlists.....which isn't gonna happen.
