I've heard that a couple F18's were comming up for sale in the next few years. Not sure exactly how private individules are getting their hands on them though.

Everything that the US Govt sells a surplus is "de-milled", basically the major structures are cut up with torches, then sold as scrap.

According to the ad it was not de-milled. Here is some of the text. :

The only F/A-18A in private ownership in the world.

This former Navy Blue Angel jet, was number 131 off the line, it has 3793 TT Total Airframe hours. 2 Engines are GE F404-GE-400 with 0 Zero time, and one spare parts engine.

Aircraft is apart only for transporting purposes and needs to be gone through and re-assembled. Everything to assemble we have. It has not flown in a few years and is stored in california.

It has an N number.

This aircraft was never demilled, "not cut ever".

Complete with extras including bomb racks, drop tanks and pylons.

Well if it was Number 1 and Number 5, why is the pic of Number 6? Â

Probably what it is is a wreck. Â Sometimes when an airframe is a total write-off the govt' won't de-mill it. Â But, enterprizing citizens have been known to rebuild these airframes. Â That's why the thing sold for 1 million, but the assembly cost is 9 million.

The T38 you see in commercials was done that way.
