Oh yeah GFR was a ton off help :bebe Oh yeah the virus is gone :break  but as has been said before you really need to have proper backups on important stuff, which of course I did not do :banghead  :banghead had alot backed up but lost a few that are going to be a pain to rebuild.

And just for future reference is there a way to backup your favorites in IE?

More questions to follow :banghead  :drink

Easiest way to backup your IE favorites is to go to your search/find, put in favorites, and then copy the entire folder to a diskette.  They are usually very small files.  Then, when you install the new OS, find the favorites folder and just copy the old favorites into the directory so it overwrites the new default favorite file.

The default directory for favorite files are in;
Win98 & ME= c:\windows
W2k & XP=C:\documents and settings\{profilename}\favorites

Just simply overwrite the favorite file with the favorite file on the diskette.

Yeah, I know.  But import/export just sounds so FOREIGN to me :laugh
Besides, if you don't put your favorites on a diskette before formatting your Hard Drive, you can't import anything :D

Yes, but....When ya lose your D Drive too....you're in trouble.  Like a few weeks ago when my computer fried.  Lost EVERYTHING....Floppy Drive, DVD ROM, CDRW, BOTH Hard Drives, Motherboard, RAM, CPU, All the PCI Cards, Video Card etc.  I literally had to replace EVERYTHING but the case.  I've been working on computers for many years and have NEVER seen that happen and I lost lots of valuable info and files.  I can guarantee it won't happen again to me :D

You know, computers are so cheap nowdays, when they break, it's cheaper to get a new one :eek   I see Fry's frequently advertises a fully loaded 800 mhz machine for $299.00.  Pricing like that is one of the reasons I got out of the retail end of the IT world :)   Of course, now it looks as though I'm being pushed out of it completely.... (you'd have to read the other thread) :(
