Has anyone been to or heard anything about the lake. It opened Oct. 2003. I went to the site and it says, "Diamond Valley Lake will be the largest body of fresh water in Southern California". The only drawback is see is that it's a reservoir and probably no body contact with water.

Diamond Valley Lake is off of Domenigoni Pkwy. It's between the cities of Winchester and Hemet. The lake is a no body contact lake with a couple stipulations on boat size and speed. http://www.dvlake.com/ Recreatioanal Rules are in the botton right of the opening screen. Get all your info there. Got a buddy that lives in Hemet. I watched that place go together. Pretty good sized reservoir. Haven't been on it but then again, my boat's been apart since the place opened..

Ditto on the speed limit, and the fishing hole.  No body contact, no lake lice.  Boats have to be pre-inspected and approved.  Gas tested for MBTE, etc.

Ok guys, my daughters Auntie is one of the project MGRS, on the DVL, the MWD owns the darn lake, they can make the rules and change them as they see fit, i have asked her time and time again many of the questions that have been raised here and all of the other boating boards, they are NEVER going to allow the average "Hot Boater", which like the title or not is us on that lake, now the Family that owns/owned the land the lake resides on are mounting some sort of legal battle but who has the deeper pocket? so i do not believe for a second that there will be alot of boating done, like the kind of boating we do, being done there for a very long time if ever at all. Any and all info i can weasel out of the Aunt, i will post, don't you think the towns and businesses in the area are pissed, there is alot of money being lost, also think about this, the MWD applied and received money to build a Marina, now if that Marina cannot maintain a certain amount of boaters, the MWD can shut down the lake entirely to boating motorized or paddle, and that is a plan that is already in place.

My buddy that lives out there has a killer view of the place. Looks like it would be a fun place to meet up and roar around. Damn rules!  :angry  I do remember the original plans calling for a marina. Bureaucracy  :banghead

When the MWD sold the idea to the local governments, they agreed to let body contact.  Then, once the dams were 1/2 built, they said "We changed our minds, tough luck."  This is a sore issue with me.  They took money from the California Dept of Boating and Waterways (boat gas taxes) and built docks.  So we paid taxes to build these docks that we aren't allowed to use.   :angry  I've sent numerous letters to the board and from what I understand, some were read at meetings, but to no avail.  It sucks, but hey, I'll just keep taking my money to Arizona.  The stupid thing is, all of the water in it came from the Colorado River, which allows body contact SO THEY HAVE TO CLEAN THE WATER FOR THAT ANYWAY!!!

Plus, do they really think that all those fishermen aren't peeing in the water?  Get real.   BEER = PISS

I have a lake about 10 minutes from my office that is pretty much the same story. They sold the project as a mixed use lake Fishing, Water Sports (contact), and Hunting. They even went so far as to log off the back portion for duck hunting. Well once they completed the dam and opened the lake they decided that it would be a no contact Lake initially and then they would open it up for the rest. Well that was about 30 years ago and it is still a no contact Lake and they have no plans on changing it in the future.

What a waste. The three rules that will keep me from ever going there, 1) No alcohol allowed, 2) 25 mph speed limit, and 3) No body contact. Did I mention, no alcohol allowed?

Hey with all the talk of boycotting the gas stations maybe we could boycott and not drink any water that the MWD has control of, yeah that'll teach them to mess with us boaters!!! :angry  :good

P.S. They control Lake Matthews too!! :angry
