Just got off the phone just now. He is in the 1st Marines out of Camp Pendleton. He is based in Ramadi, Iraq right now. Lotsa folks over there are not hearing from back home and moral sounds kinda low. Said they had 2 Army troops killed by a mortar attack there at the base yesterday.

It kinda sucks where they're at. Farmers come out to wave and greet them on the convoy coming in, but once in the city, people run up to them and spit on their vehicles and them. I would imagine that is because they are in the Sunni Triangle, which is Pro-Saddam.

Anyway, that was the first time we've heard from him since he was deployed there and it was great talking with him. We'll be sending out a care package to him today. I highly encourage EVERYONE that knows anyone in Iraq to send magazines, newspapers, books, etc. and even if you don't know anyone there, call your nearest US Military base and ask where you can send care packages to. Please don't forget all of our brave men and women that continue to put their lives on the line to preserve our precious way of life.

Also, if anyone needs an address, I'd be more than happy to give ya's my nephews mailing address in Iraq and I'm sure he'd distribute anything that is sent, to fellow Soldiers that need it. he is that kinda guy that is always willing to help out.

my next door nieghbor is a federal firefighter, and they have offered him $100k tax free US dollars, to serve on the Iraqi fire dept.

Would any of you go for that kind of money?

thats true, allthough $100k tax free does sound good, I would give the wife $60k and I would spend $40k on a new boat(as a down payment of course), $40k just seems to not go far in the boat world these days.

The husband of one of the girls I know is in Iraq and he reports nothing but bad news. They sleep in a fire zone and have to sleep with their kevlar vests and helmets to keep from getting killed because of the constant shooting :guns

and shelling. Damn, that sounds like a butt puckering experience. I was in the military for Kuwait in '91 and it was no fun but we do it because it's what you do when you're in the military because it's to support the US. Whether we agree with why we send troops in or not is meaningless when you're in the middle of the blood. Thumbs up to our boys and girls putting their life on the line. My cousin is special forces and we never know when or where he is nor do we even get to correspond with him. We know he leaves and we don't know crap until he calls and says he's home. Be safe... :good

Hey gerry, remember my nephew Josh? That's the one that's over there now. My nephew Kenny came back to the US from Iraq last month after spending a year there. Josh is supposed to be there for 7 months. Says that they get shot at and mortared every night.
