Yes, but without having software installed on each machine, it's pretty tough to do.  The easiest way to do it would be to setup an FTP site.  It could actually be done pretty easy in other ways though, simply by uploading a file, pic, music, etc and then posting a link to the URL that the file is located at.  Then, anyone could just right click on the link and click the save as feature and save the file to the hard drive.
It's a good idea, but a dangerous proposition this day in age due to the copyright lawsuits going around.  It would be just a matter of time before a copyright law is broken and the RIAA or someone else steps in and hits you with a lawsuit.  I could set it up pretty easy on my website, but won't due to the potential for a lawsuit.

I know ya were not asking me to do it...I was just pointing out a big issue with it.
Anyway, yes, there is software available.  Go to http://www.download.com and do a search on Peer to peer and/or FTP Server, whichever way you decide to go.  There is free software available for ya at this site that should suit your needs.

Hmmmm.....Good question.  I run Windows 2000 Advanced Server and it's built-in so I have no need for them and have never tried them :D

I've been running W2k since I got a copy of the BETA version before it was available to the public.  It seems to be the most stable OS (At least of the Windows type) and it also has lotsa various networking features....most of which I do not currently use but have used in the past.  You could also literally take your Broadband connection (Cable, DSL, etc) and Resell that bandwidth to dialup customers when using RAS in W2k.  And of course, it does have the ability to run as an FTP server :good

Hey Art, if you have a static IP address, you could actually use the W2k OS to run as a webserver too and host that site for your Mrs and not have to pay anyone else :good   I have used both W2k and Linux (Apache) webservers and they both work great.  Not saying which I prefer though :D  :D  :good

You will still have to pay the name registration fees, but no hosting fees.  You can setup W2k's Webserver to run as long as you have a static IP address, simply by registering your static IP address and DNS address as the host of your domain(oh yeah, you need to setup W2k as a DNS server too).  Then, all you have to do is leave the computer on 24/7 and you are hosting your own website :D  :good

Of course, the more bandwith you have coming in and going out, the faster your webpages will load for folks :D

Most websites on the Internet are Running Unix/Linux, NT (NT, W2k, W03, etc).  Myself, I prefer Linux because of the Cost and stability, but W2k does pretty well too.  My current website is running on W2k and has been up for a long time (4 years) with 99.9% up time
