I know I don't post much but I just can't stop thinking about this... My husband, our two daughters and I just got back from Vegas.  I was driving and my precious family was asleep.  I'm driving down the 91 west bound when all of a sudden a wrong way driver comes at us off of the 241!!!  My husband wakes up because I'm swerving and asks what the heck I'm doing.  He then sees why I'm swerving!  I watched in my rearview mirror as this guy just kept flying down the west boud side going east... my husband called 911 on our cell.  I hope no one got hurt and that they caught him in time.  I can say I really thanked God for this one!  It's now officially our youngest 3rd birthday, I'm just happy we're all still here to celebrate.  That truly scared the crap out of me  :(

I was told once by a CHP that the best way to avoid a collision under those circumstances, is to head straight toward the wrong-way vehicle in a straight line.  Not that I ever want to try it mind you, I'm not that :stupid

Glad to hear that ya made it through safely.  It's not always the case and you hear about those type of incidents with fatalities far too frequent.  I have seen a few wrong-way drivers in my many driving days, but have not ever really worried about them because I am usually sitting up pretty high in my vehicles :D   But, if my kids are with me, that's another story.

That makes sense because neither knows what the other is thinking and the odds are you will both go the same direction to avoid crashing!. :banghead

Really?  That's interesting... I would think the opposite.  I always thought that when people are drunk (I'm assuming drinking was involved here, could have been drugs) they tend to drive toward lights.  All I know was, in that split second I was just trying to get away!!!  My husband's coworker lost a son about a year ago because of a wrong way driver on the freeway.  I really hope no one was hurt/killed from this one.

Thanks for the tip, I just hope I never have to use it again  :(

Glad nothing happened to you or your family. That is unbeleivable how close you could of came to a horrible accident. I'd be shaken for quite awhile myself. Happy B-day to your 3 year old, your angels are watching over you for sure. :)

I don't know if it works or not.  It is just what I was told years ago by a CHP.  I also remember my drinking days :beat  and when I think about it now, I never drove toward the light, but rather away from it because it caused me to not be able to see the road more.  Just an observation from someone that has been arrested 4 times for DUI (2 convictions) many years ago.  Best way for me to avoid that is don't drink, which I've been sober for 10+ years now :jumpie

Yea, I am still a bit shaken.  I can't stop thinking about it.

Thanks for the b-day wishes for my little one.  She's still sleeping, we had quite a road trip yesterday... Vegas and back in just a hair under 24 hours!  She'll be happy when she wakes up though... the jumper will be waiting for her in the back yard  :jumpie

That's awesome BBT!!  Congrats!  My dad has been clean and sober now for almost 10 years.  He'd been drinking/using since I was quite young.  I'm very proud of him, as I'm sure your family is of you!   :good

Glad you and the family are ok Mrs. LL.

We lost a detective last June due to a head on.  The accident re-creation specialist said that the driver veered the same way as our victim det. when he could have/should have veered to the opposite, and said it often happens that way.

Good heads up driving, regardless.... I say it's cause you guys drive fast boats that demand attention to driving/LOL.

Thanks LR.  I still can't stop thinking about it.  That is the freakiest thing I've ever experienced on the highway.  Is there a way we can find out if this person was caught?  Lonnie says we can probably call highway patrol.  Our first hope is that no one was injured/killed.  Our next one is that this S.O.B was caught and will be punished.  It sickens me to think someone can be that hammered and get into a car... I guess it's just that mother lion coming out in me!! :angry

Glad no one got hurt there.

I have heard that the wrong way guys tend to stay towards their right....which is the fast lane or the shoulder/median  so you should go left....towards your slow lane....

Same comment I was gonna make---learned it at a drivers course. Thinking behind it is: the usually intoxicated person thinks he's driving in his right lane less obvious to the cops...unless he's on the wrond side of the freeway :stupid .
Sure glad you had the wherewithall to avoid a potentially fatal accident LLGirl...Its the one thing I really consentrate on when driving, especially on roads like Rice.....and shortly after 2am. Don't want anyone stealing my family from life.

Think about it, isn't it always an automatic reaction to go to the right regardless!. :rolleyes

I Am in the military stationed in Vegas at Nellis AFB. When I first got here they do this safety brief about the local area and the Metro officer that spoke told us that after 7 PM I think it is 3 out of 5 are .10 or better on the road. :drink  :drink  :drink

That is what this town revolves around.

Just gotta watch it out here.  :cool  :cool

That very thing happened to me years ago on Maui. I was driving along normal right by Kapalua Golf course and my wife and I see this car coming at us in our lane...these fockers made me run off the road and onto this beautifully manicured grass...left some gnarly tracks in the lawn.
Driver of the other car gave me real dumb look like I was doing something wrong but I do know the Japanese drive on the left side at home....F'ing Idiot!
