I like boating up at Camp Far West because it's never really too crowded on the lake, it usually doesn't get too rough, and the Law lets ya run as fast as ya want and with open exhaust (As long as you are runninig safely).  I just started going there about 3 years ago and used to go to Lake Berryessa and the Sacramento River, but they are not near as fun as CFW.  I haven't been to Berryessa in 3 years now and go to the river maybe once a year.
On the downside, CFW is usually a mud puddle by August and not very good for boating.  They release all the water to the farmers throughout the summer and the lake goes way down.

Newmanator tells me that camp far west is nice. We might do it for Father's Day weekend. I like the river myself. But that could change. ;)

I think if you are on the water with good friends and good times, then that is the best place to be.   :good   Don't you feel warm and fuzzy now!   :love  :love

But if you are looking for a more specific answer, I prefer the stretch of the river from Needles to the Sandbar!  Because you can haul ass or you can float or you can party.  And its really pretty too!

Apache Lake here locally and if Roosevelt Lake ever gets somewhat full it'll be very cool  :good bigger than Havasu, its actually about 10% fuller this year than last but still under 60 ft below capacity.

The Zoo and river are cool just twice as far and to busy on weekends.

Heres a little pic from Apache Lake about 2-3 hours north of Tucson

It's hard not to love the variety of boating opportunities that the Colorado River provides.  From Mead to Martinez, the choices are many, be it party-city or isolation, big water lakes or narrow back-waters.  I'm jealous of the NoCal boaters and their many choices, but the river is still hard to beat.

My favorite lake happens to be Shaver, outside of Fresno.  As a youngster, we started boating there in the early 60's.  Dirt camping at Dorabelle, then camp Edison, the lake and forest surroundings are hard to beat.  It gotten quite popular now, but you can still pick your times to enjoy the calm serenity of such a beautiful location.

Never did Buena Vista, despite my parents living right down the road from there.  Visited it many times.

I have a biz mtng in Scottsdale next week and want to spend some time scoutin' the Salt Creek lakes.  Heard some nice things about Saguaro, Canyon, Apache, etc., just never made a road trip out there.  Looks like beautiful country from the air and pix from the boards.

Heck, anyplace you can dip your prop (or take a squit in my case) is good.  I used to take my 18' to Lake Diaz camping..!!

I agree with you. The Colorado probably has the most variety, at least as far as I'm concerned. Mead is great when the water's not down.

When I was little, my dad would take us to Roosevelt quite a bit and in the early '60s it was just awesome, .........and full to the top too.  :good

Oh, Lake Shasta is great too, or at least it used to be, but I haven't been there in over 10 years.  :(

Hey BBT,
How's Don Pedro or McClure?  My buddy down here in Socal swears by McClure.  They are big time skiers and boat campers.  It's just a LONG way up there....
