Well, after 10 years, I am finally AOL free! :good  The final straw was that they began blocking port 25 traffic so I couldn't send email from my havasudoug.com accounts without using web-based software.

I had my account SO long that my primary screen name was simply "F350".  If I wanted that now, it would be "F3505489652". :rotflmao  Also, there was not even internet access from AOL back in 1994.  It was just it's own world. :eek

We had a deal in SoCal a few years back called something like freedsl.com. They were going to provide dsl service for free in exchange for using their browser with ads.  I signed my rights to my dsl connection away to them, and they went bankrupt.  It took forever for them to release the line to an ISP of my choice. :angry

I got rid of mine a couple months ago when I went with Cox high speed.  There is no looking back now.  I was there almost as long as you were Doug as my 1996 designated my join year.  It started out on a use per hour deal and mine tended to run in the triple digits, and that was in the days that 28.8 dial up was fast...  Haven't looked back and really don't miss it.

Congrats on being AOhelL Free.   :beer

Well, congrats on being AOL free :good   I've fixed so many computers in my day that were F'ed up from AOL that I can't cpount how many.  I've never liked it nor have I ever recommended it.
We just "Upgraded" our Yahoo/SBC DSL.  We were getting 1.5Mbps for like $50.00 per month and now we are getting 3 Mbps for $39.95.  When it was offered to us about 2 months ago, it was like a no brainer.....Twice the speed for $10.00 less per month :D  :good

Yep, cable modem is amazing.  Since I work at home, gotta have that speed...!!!

Added a wireless hub so that more that on pc can use the net at the same time.  Not as fast as direct/connect, but serves the need.

I have a wireless router as well for one of my computers.  One of these days, I'll run some cat5 cable for it to increase the speed. :D

Since I live out here in the weeds, all we had for several years was local dial-up and that just blew chunks. A couple years ago we finally got DSL and I was in hawg heaven until we visited my in-laws in San Diego. They have Cox high speed and it's amazing how fast it is compared to DSL.  :eek
