So how many people here have a jar or can they throw their spare change in??

I've got an old Foldgers can that I've been shucking spare change in for years.  Every night, any spare change goes in the can.  Well, it finally filled up.  So, off to the coin star today and holy crap  :eek , I had enough coin in that little red can to pay for my trip out to get the flatty.   :good

I do love "free" money.

I throw my loose change and sometimes $1 bills in a can, then about a week before X-Mas I have it all converted to $$ and the $$ is split up evenly between the 5 kids.  Sort of an additional X-Mas present.  The reason that I do it a week before X-Mas is because I want all the kids to learn about giving, not just getting, and for the most part, the kids take their share of the $$ out and buy ther siblings X-Mas gifts, all done WITHOUT my encouragement (I want them to learn for themselves on this one) :good  :good

Its a machine that counts and sorts your change(they put them in grocery stores alot) but charges you around 9% :angry But it is the way to go if you have a lot of change or are just lazy like Sleekjet.  :p

Well, since I don't have a bank down here, I wasn't even about to ask how much those shysters at B of A or Wells Fargo charge for the same service.

That little red can weighed about 20 lbs, so we're not talking about a little loose change around the house.  I figured I've been throwing quarters and such in there for pretty close to 5 years now.  It would have taken me weeks to seperate and roll all that change.

And, last time I rolled my own, so to speak, I had to wait in the bank almost 45 min while the change was counted.  It only cost me a couple bucks and now I've got a little folding money in my pocket.

Even though I think it is a rip off, I still use it also.

I make the kids wrap all the coins.  We get the coin wraps free from our bank and we have a little coin wrapping party.  It isn't hard to convince the kids to do it because they know that the $$ ends up going to them.

:angry  Coin Star takes 7 to11% of your change it is a rip off but its easier then wraping them and taking them to the bank and to be honest the banks hates getting coin ..So what we do is when we make our trip to yearly Laughlin trip we stay at Harrah's and I lug this huge can or cans of coin that we saved all year they have a coin changer in the casino that takes all coins....  yes pennies and dimes too!..I dont know if any of you noticed but none of the casinos in vegas will take anything except Quarters and Nickles any more... well it helps pay for the trip ..well with the price of gas being up so high it might be enough to fill the suburban and the boat and pay for the the Coors Light! But I will have to pay out of pocket to fill both tanks for the drive home.. :guns

I have a jar on top of the washing machine.  Every year, around Christmas time, I cash it in and get paid about $150-$200 for doing laundry for the year.  Do I buy myself something?  Of course not, I usually use it to buy Christmans gifts for the kids. :banghead  :p

I've been doing it for years.  I also use to use the change jar for the car wash... always scavenging for quarters.  But, I purchased a new 2400psi Pressure washer about a month ago and I use that now.  Trips to the car wash are now history :good  :D

A long time ago I got the bright idea of filling a Sparkletts water bottle with change. It didn't work out all that well because when it was full, I couldn't get the coins out. Ended up breaking the bottle and spending many hours picking out the glass.  :angry
