We live in a pretty nice area in the 909....been here 15+....
This Sheriff buys the house next door. It's was a nice place before; just needed a little TLC as a single mom was the owner. Thought this would be good...
WRONG..!!! They move in, take out all the greenery in the front, rip up the sprinkler system, park a junker in the driveway, and DO NOTHING ELSE. They never water, front or back; everything dies except the trees feeding of the neighbor houses.
This has been OVER TWO YEARS.
He does a re-fi, starts working on the place, tears out everything in the back and puts a big spa, patio, retaining walls, tears out the front steps, planters, etc., and starts laying a new driveway with brick inlays, etc. Ok, I think to myself. Finally something positive.
And yes, the junker is now in the street.
Guess he ran out of cash, 'cause it's been two months and still no cement has been poured in the driveway. Just a bunch of brick patterns in the dirt. Since he's got no driveway and the junker is in front of the house, he parks his cars in front of my house, leaves his trash cans on the sidewalk, there's leftover brick and other crap layin' everywhere.
WTF can I do? Do I go over and ask him about the situation or go to the city and keep my distance? I know it's hurtin my property value and others on the street.
Comments welcome.

Wow that sucks big time, especially since he's a Sheriff!. I think I would talk to my other neighbors and see what they think about it, I'm sure it bugs them just as much. Maybe if a few neighbors talk to him about it he might clean up his act that way nobody gets's singled out. He could make life miserable for ya if you were to be the only one that bitches!..My .02..

PROPS (v-drive of course) Brotha....
We have a good neighboyhood overall. We all wave, talk about the weather and stuff, and have just kinda "ignored" the situation. His is only the second ownership change in the 15+ years we been here.
Since I'm off the wagon now, maybe I'll take over a few "Silvers" this wknd and ask "what's up". Couldn't hurt I guess.

He's a nice guy and all. You would think that he would want to keep up with the area. We're not $MM mansions by any means, but nice homes, large lots, 3-4 with pools, quiet cul-de-sac, etc. What's funny is that you never see them outside the house during the day...!!
What's really funny/sad/???, they like to have family, friends, etc. over and these people have to walk past the junker, through the maze of trash cans in the front yard, and then "tightrope" on the brickwork to get to the front door..!!
The last coupla weeks he's been gone for days at a time, "workin' overtime" he says. Sound like a real cash flow problem to me...!!

An NHP officer lives next door and he's just the best neighbor we could have!
Your neighbor is probably a very nice guy who's just under a lot of stress and doesn't realize he's slopping up his yard.
I'd find out when he'll have a day off and fire up the barbeque and get to know the guy. Invite the neighbors and make it fun! Offer to give him a hand tidying up his place and if he can't move the car, suggest one of those $30 Wal-Mart car covers.
A cop is great to have around these days with all these burgleries and home invasions.

We had something similar with the neighbors adult son (35 years old) moving back in "just 'till he's back on his feet". Not just one but two cars! Started a "beautification" project for his parents w/o their blessing and tore up the yard. For homeowners if you do not have an association, (which I fear and am glad they don't exist here) you can sue over a form of malpractice. Sounds weird but that's what it is. Also, the cars have to be registered to be parked on the street. But yes, depending on who he works for he can make your life hell. In our situation we had finally had it and approached the parents about the eye-sore and the possible loss in home values for the neighbors. They were actually pleased that we discussed it with them because they fealt there was no problem assuming that if there was it would be addressed with them. Good luck.
