OK, since this started in Monday Beer Drinking here is a little info to bring us up to day.
I've got a 93 full size Blazer that quit me the other day. I replaced the fuel filter, and we were good to go. Then a couple days later, the truck quit and hasn't run since.
I replaced the fuel pump relay, still no go.
I just went out and checked fuel pressure, and guess what, the focking thing runs just fine this morning. Fuel pressure is running right around 10 - 11 psi. The factory spec is 9 - 13, so I'm right down the middle. My current theory is that the tank got low (ok, it probably is almost out, the gas guage doesn't work real well) and sucked some air, cavitating the pump. When I broke the system loose to plumb in the fuel pressure guage, I bled the air out of the system.
We are going to go on a little test drive this afternoon and see what happens. Updates to follow.

That's what happened 30 years ago. To much air between my ears and before I knew it, I became a truck driver. |
Is that all it takes   "air between my ears " |
Yep that's what they say!..

OK, we had a hartbeat, but the patient died again. Drove the truck around a little yesterday, shut it off and re-started several times no problem.
Went to the movies (took my niece to see Shrek II, highly recomended).
Came home and went to move the Blazer, no dice. Put the pressure gauge on it, and still the 10 - 11 psi, so I'm guessing the regulator is bad (all it is is a rubber diaphram with a spring on it), and allowing fuel to return to the tank and not go to the injectors.
More surgury is planned for tonight, I'll keep everyone posted.

oh ok well good luck on fixing it   |
That's why I'm getting a little frustrated. Everything seems to check out, but the thing just doesn't want to run.
I was pretty paranoid yesterday when it miraculously fixed it's self. I'm just glad it didn't start in the driveway and not quit me on the way to work.

Well since I don't know jack shit about newer Chevys, is your fuel pump in the tank? If it is, you need to be sure to keep plenty of gas in there as internal pumps require complete submersion to keep from overheating. It could be that diaphram or you could have a leaky injector allowing air to get into the system.
My Bullitt, my wife's Contour and our Escape occasionally pulls the same "no start" stunt. Crank, crank, crank and no fire up. I've just learned to just turn the key to on, let the pump recharge the line and then crank it over. Works every time for me.
It's all part of owning nothing but Fords.

Yeah, it's internal, but from what I've read and looked at in diagrams, it does not run submerged all the time??? The pump is mounted vertically on the fuel level sending unit, with the pickup sitting in a little cup on the bottom of the tank. Â
I'm still doing research on the fuel pump operation and such, trying to figure out how it all works togather. Â Normally I'd be really into this, learning how it works, fixing it, ect... , but right now this is my primary mode of transportation, so I'm kinda up a creek untill I can get it fixed.

Quote (AZKC @ June 16 2004,5:16 pm) | So whats up so far. I'm guessing fuel pump is intermitently failing. With you moving down from the Great White North. I'll bet the heat is making it poop out off and on. My Beast does this also but I have 2 tanks/pumps so I've been getting by |
Well, the fuel pump is fine as far as I can tell. When it wouldn't start, I threw the gauge back on it and bingo, 10 -11 psi, even while cranking. We tried starting it several times, nothing.
I've finally figured out how to get the trouble codes out of it, so tonight I'm gonna see if the black box has anything to say about it.
