Man's body found floating off Island  :(

By Gary Weiand

The body of a man missing since Thursday and feared drowned was discovered Monday evening floating in the north basin of Lake Havasu, according to authorities.

Trish Carter, Mohave County Sheriff's Office media specialist, confirmed that Benjamin Roy Addington, 28, Sandy, Utah, was discovered about 7:30 p.m.

Crewmembers of the Dreamcatcher ferry, which runs several times daily between Bridgewater Channel and Havasu Landing, Calif., found the body off Crazy Horse Beach, according to Charlie Cassens, Lake Havasu City public information officer.

Addington apparently drowned Thursday evening after being ejected from a 22-foot Ultra Boat in front of Crazy Horse Campground. The boat's operator, Jason John Alva, Jordan City, Utah, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence, according to sheriff's reports.

Carter said that the Sheriff's Department, with the assistance of the Lake Havasu City Police and Arizona State Parks, had continued the surface search for Addington but had been unsuccessful in finding him.

Crazy Horse Campground is located on the north side of the Island.

Another demonstration that operating a boat under the influence produces disasterous results. :(

I'll bet the boat driver gets charged with manslaughter now. :rolleyes

:rolleyes  :rolleyes   It's a shame that things happen like this.  Too many, too often.  Although I'm sure that the deceased man's pre-accident condition (Probably drunk too) probably also had something to do with it, the ultimate responsibility is on the operator of the vessel.  I hope they charge him with at the minimum, involuntary Manslaughter.
Why are some people just so stupid?  I don't drink alcohol at all anyways, but just the same, I NEVER go over 55-60 mph when I have a passenger in the boat, and I ALWAYS get out of the throttle when I see a wake/roller coming into my path, whether I have a passenger or not.  I know that I have something to hold on to in the rough stuff or at speed, but it is impossible to know what kind of grip that the passenger(s) have and what their ability is to hold on.   Better to live to be able to come out and play another day, than to take stupid risks.

I find it rather odd that there seems to be more boaters being ejected this year than I've ever read about :stupid  :stupid

I'm wondering when they say "his body was ejected" do you think he was semi-conscience or passed out from all the booze he had earlier?  :stupid

That's sorta the impression I got.  Maybe semi awake but totally drunk....We've all been there many times right?  I can imagine that it would be pretty easy to get "ejected" under those circumstances, and not be conscious enough to swim.
