Ever since Cheney told that guy to FO on the Senate floor, I still laugh when I think about it. |
I thought it was pretty cool myself!..

On another note on the same lines, my nephew was over for a few hours last night, the one that was in the 82nd Airborne in Iraq and is now out of the Army (Not the one that is currently in Iraq). He was telling me some war stories I didn't know about that he was involved in. Including a event where he had 2 fellow service members that were down and had cluster bombs all around them. He ran in without thinking of his own safety and pulled them out of harms way. He was put in for a Bronze star but only got a commendation for it while his superior got the bronze star. That's pretty F'ed up..... He was telling me that when the service men and women are leaving the military right now and getting out, they are being asked what could have been done to have them re-enlist (The US Military is trying to figure out a way to keep people longer than 4 years), and it seems to be the consensus that the main thing was to be recognized for their service to our country. In other words, if I do good, then give me the medal....don't give it to my CO. Now I'm starting to see why Kerry got "His" medals.......
Anyway, my nephew ended up with 3 Letters of Commendation for things that he did in Iraq, and for that, he is proud and thankful of.
Now then, back to Kerry bashing and questioning his service record

Here ya go, a few words from a True War Hero, Bob Dole, on John Kerry and his medals.
Quote; "One day he's saying that we were shooting civilians, cutting off their ears, cutting off their heads, throwing away his medals or his ribbons," Dole said. "The next day he's standing there, `I want to be president because I'm a Vietnam veteran.' Maybe he should apologize to all the other 2.5 million veterans who served. He wasn't the only one in Vietnam," said Dole, whose World War II wounds left him without the use of his right arm.
Dole added: "And here's, you know, a good guy, a good friend. I respect his record. But three Purple Hearts and never bled that I know of. I mean, they're all superficial wounds. Three Purple Hearts and you're out."

Quote (BigBoyToys @ Aug. 22 2004,8:53 pm) | I've been told that it's the norm right now....CO's getting the medals for the things that the subordinates do. |
That kinda takes the incentive to enlist away don't it , I'd have a problem with that big time, I'm going to risk getting my ass blown away while my CO sits behind a desk and he gets the medal, I don't think so!..

Quote (BigBoyToys @ Aug. 22 2004,9:53 pm) | I heard that! Â My nephew was gonna re-enlist until all of that BS from Iraq. Â It wasn't the fighting that bothered him, but rather, it was the lack of recognition for the heroic things that he did do. Â He risked his life and his boss got the credit for it. Â That is one of the main reasons right now why troops are not re-enlisting and the troop retention rate is at an all-time low. Â My other nephew that is in Iraq now is already planning on getting out in January when his term is up. Â He has recently received a purple heart in Iraq (For the Humvee Fireball incident mentioned in another thread) and he is still involved in Combat daily over there in Iraq. |
Yep, I don't blame him at all for not reenlisting!..

The ballad of Big Bad John ... Kerry
Every mornin' on the Hill you could see him arrive Standing six-foot-four, weighing one-twenty-five Kinda' scrawny at the shoulders and lacking a spine And when he spoke at all, it was mainly to whine ( Big John, Big John ) Big Bad John
Nobody seems to know what's in John's soul His 'beliefs' are based on the latest poll 'Though he'll say what it takes to get your votes It's the leftist agenda that he really promotes - Big John. Some one said he came from Boston town Where he joined the Navy and gained renown 'Earning' three purple hearts and one bronze star The home folks said, "This boy will go far" ( Big John, Big John ) Big Bad John ( Big John )
Then came a day back in '71 When he renounced all the medals that he had won Then turned against his country and his Navy friends And sold them out for his own selfish ends ( Big John ) He appeared before Congress and on left-wing talk shows Giving aid and comfort to America's foes It was clear to see whose side he was on Some say he helped cause the fall of Saigon - Big John ( Big John, Big John ) Big Bad John ( Big John )
He claims to be for the working poor Yet he owns 5 mansions from shore to shore He never had to work a day in his life 'cause he learned it helps to have a wealthy wife! - Big John Now he wants to be our next President and Commander-in-chief of those he resents: The American soldiers who fight and die To give him the freedom to tell us his lies ( Big John, Big John ) Big Bad John ( Big John )
Thousands have sacrificed their young lives To help ensure that our nation survives A vote for Kerry is a slap in the face To all the brave soldiers that he's disgraced FADE ( Big John, Big John ) Big Bad John ( Big John
