I also posted this on RRL..... Thanks for your help

Well I am sure most of you know we are now full time AZ residents, and now its time to register to the boat from CA to AZ.

Question #1

Can I leave the trailer registerd in CA, and have the boat registerd in AZ? If I recall its $15 every 5 years to register the trailer in CA. I have heard its much higher in AZ.

Question #2

Does anyone know where I can get my current painted CF #s removed and have my AZ #s painted?

We live in Mesa.

Thank you.   :jumpie

If you changed all your cars/trucks over to AZ just do the trailer too....make the conversion complete. I'm sure BoatCop can answer your question best.
.
The painted numbers can be removed pretty easy...do a search on HB, there was a pretty long thread dedicated to just that....Might have been Mandelon who put it up some months ago. :confused
Seems like Easy-Off oven cleaner was one method mentioned but don't take my word on it.

Gofast, I just hate the fact that I have to go to 2 different places to get the boat & trailer registerd. Do you happen to know what the one time fee is? $15 every 5 years in CA sounds like a deal that cant be beat.  :stupid

For those of you that don't speak GFRphonics its "permanent"

I would think the AZ permanent plates are the way to go :good

Like Ziggy said on the removal, Hotboat had a good thread. I think it was "Easy Off" oven cleaner. Hit Jordy up on somebody to paint them back on "he knows all the right people in the valley" or have HD make ya up some vinyls :peace

You might be able to do your boat online, but the trailer will probably need an inspection. Hey AZ needs your money to help pay my salary :D

When you take your vehicle to get the vin inspected, take the trailer to, that'll save you one trip.   :good

I don't know about Phoenix, but the Game and Fish dept here in Tucson was no hassle at all to deal with (and I didn't have a HIN on the Campbell).  If you have a HIN, they'll just issue you an AZ registration and be done with it.

You can do the boat online that's a piece of cake. The trailer you have to take it to em for inspection it's no big deal, take it with you when you take your tow vehicle..Yep $15 every 5 years is hard to beat, it cost me $75 for each of mine for permanent tags. The reason for that is so they can make money, what are the odds that you will keep it long enough to make the $75 pay for itself because if you sell it the next guy has to pay it again!...But here's the pisser, if you keep it registered in CA you better put it in someone else's name because if you get stopped and your vehicle is registered here and not the trailer the fine is huge!..Welcome to fkn AZ!. :angry

They are the easiest to deal with, when I was in Ca I registered my boat in Az and all I did was call them up and they sent me the forms and all I did was fill it it in and send them the $$$$ and they sent me my numbers, done deal!.. :good

You keep your trailer tags for the next trailer you get, yes the new owner has to pay unless he has a tag from his old trailer. If you play your cards right you would never have to pay a trailer tags for as long as you live.

From AZ DOT website:

 8) How does Plate and Fee To Owner affect my permanently registered trailer?
If you sell your trailer, remove the license plate and keep it for use on another trailer. If you do not transfer that plate to another trailer within 30 days, you must surrender it to any MVD or authorized Third Party office. Personalized and other special plates do not need to be surrendered.

If you transfer the plate to another trailer, you may be eligible to receive credit for fees paid within the last two years. At the time the trailer receives a permanent registration, there are 24 months of potential credit. Each month that passes, the number of creditable months is reduced by one, so that the potential credit will be reduced to zero after two years.

Thanks for your help guys. Zig, I'll have to look up those links at home tonight.

I called the fish & game yesterday and since I am still making payments on my boat and I dont have the title, I have to have the finance co fill out some junk, and fax me a copy of the title. wtf is that? I hate red tape!!! Especially when I have to take time off work to do it!  :fight

At least the truck & car transfer was a piece of cake & the current registration on the boat is not up yet!  :jumpie

Hey Steve, What ever you do do not forget to notify Ca. that your boat is now residing in Az. When I moved to Az. I registered here and I just let the CA. registration lapse, and the damn state of Ca. put a lein on my Ca. house for the personal property tax on the boat, because we were using it as a rental. It was a real bitch when I sold the Ca. house. I paid the lein and still took a hit on my credit report that they refuse to take off. Not a major deal but it's still there and pisses me off. So do it in writing and send it registered mail. As far as the trailer reg. about $125.00 for permanent on a new trailer. Welcome to Arizona, See you in Havasu :beer  :good
