Man dies following cliff dive
LAKE MOHAVE, Ariz. - A California man died in a cliff diving accident on Lake Mohave early Saturday evening. The National Park Service identified the victim as Erik Stuart Middleton, 34, Ontario.
Spokeswoman Roxanne Dey said Middleton dove from a 35 foot cliff at Gasoline Alley about 6:30 p.m.  Witnesses said that he flipped 360 degrees and hit the water at an odd angle and did not surface," Dey said.
Dey said personnel from Arizona and Nevada agencies assisted in recovering the body 41 feet below the surface.

Oh! Man!  How horrible!  My parents are there this weekend, I hope they weren't there to witness that.

Eric was with the group that I hang with...I was working this weekend and was not there for the accient.  My (and his friends) dove after him when he hit the water.  They swam after him but after 20ft he was just out of range and they had to swim back to the surface.  He was unreachable after that. :cry   It was a tragic accident and I feel for his family as much as the people who tried to save him but where unable.....

I just talked to my mom.  She said that Erik had hiked to the top and chickened out.  He walked back down and his friends gave him a hard time and talked him into going back up.  I feel mostly bad for them.  They must feel terrible.  If he had just jumped straight in and not done the flip, I'm sure everything would have turned out fine.  Unless you're a pro, you have to go feet first.  It's just really sad, all the way around.

Rivergang, I'm sorry about the loss of your friend.
