So I was at Best Buy with my brother yesterday looking for a new movie for the munchkin (I'm tired of watching Finding Nemo, Shrek, and Brother Bear over and over and over... I needed new material) and they had "Vanishing Point". Â So, being the gearhead/car guy that I am I picked it up. Â
It's been a couple years since I've watched it, and have never watched it uncut... but fock, what a bazaar flick. Â
Kinda "Easy Rider" except with a Hemi-Cuda. Â
Oh yeah BTW, the munchkin got "Ice Age". Â

That brings back memories. Â I saw "Vanishing Point" as the second of a double feature at the local theater. Â The first movie was "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry". Anyway, I was a kid with no money and couldn't afford the theater snacks. Â I took a bag of shelled sunflower seeds with me and that was it. By the time Vanishing Point was showing, I started getting a headache. The bizarreness of that movie did not help matters one bit. Â I made it through the end of the movie, but I couldn't eat seeds again for a long time.

Quote (Sleek-Jet @ Sep. 08 2004,10:55 am) | No shit, you know the lead singer for Iron Butterfly?? Â
You are hooked up Doug. Â |
I should say I used to know him because I haven't seen him in a while. Â He quit the band around 4 years ago to take care of his ailing parents.
So we sat next to each other on his couch and watched the "History of Rock and Roll" on VH-1. Â He had comments to make on almost everyone that came on the screen. Â When Led Zeppelin appeared, he pointed out the fact that Zeppelin opened for Iron Butterfly at a concert in NY. Â How many peeps can say that Zeppelin opened for their band? When Carlos Santana appeared, he said "Oh, I have a gig with Carlos in Vegas tomorrow". Â I couldn't go, though, because I had to work.

Those are all great movies... Love the little nut gatherer in Ice Age---great character they added. Wasn't his name Screech or something like that? |
Scrat I think. Â He's a saber-toothed squirell. Â Â
I love those movies too, my niece and I watch them all the time. Â
I can't wait untill Shrek II comes out on DVD.

When I dated his step-daughter, her and her friend met me and my roommate at a local club. Â Her friend was the step-daughter of the drummer Ron Bushy. Â The girls went up to the DJ and told him who their dads were. Â So the DJ played "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" after introducing the daughters and the place went wild. |
I think that was around 1970 that my Aunt turned me on to them, isn't that the song with the 17 minute drum solo |
Yep. I believe at the time it was the longest recorded rock song in history. Take that Greatfull Dead.

a couple of other 70's car chase movies that are very cool are Dual with Denis Weaver and Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, with Peter Fonda. A couple of my all time favorite movies.

Back in high school, "Vanishing Point" was on a double bill with "On Any Sunday". I was really into Mopars back then and I wanted a white Challenger R/T so bad I could taste it.
It's my favorite car movie.
