I know that you guys love the river. But it seems to me that this place is becoming a death trap. Every year we read about more and more fetal accidents there. It’s beginning to sound like a drunk boating frenzy.

What do you guys think is it getting out of hand there?

It won't stop me from going but I read something interesting in this morning's paper.

According to the Orange County Register,

Quote
The Colorado River is one of the deadliest boating corridors in the nation, A Register analysis found.  From 1995 to 2003, 136 recreational boaters died on the river, compared with 101 in the Pacific Ocean coastal waters and 75 on the Mississippi River.

I've already been thinking about that.  We are only 10 days away from the anniversary of NVScustom's crash. :(

I've never been boating at the "River" there, but have been through there many times.  Seems like there's too many boats for the amount of water to me.  I'll take a deserted lake anyday :good  over a crowded river

Its just got to be the odds.  You get that many people together and accidents will happen.  Its sad, but its gonna happen.

Every morning people get killed on the freeway, but that is not stopping anyone from driving. Or moving to the city.  :drama

A deserted Lake isn't boring if ya have the speed to make it exciting :D  :good   Crowded waterways end up with too many A-Holes on them.  Not everyone mind you, but it only takes 1 person to ruin an otherwise great outing.
I prefer fewer boats around for the safety aspect of boating, and for the children that play in the water.  That, coupled with fewer/no PWC's, make it an EXCITING weekend to me.  Of course, it's always nice to meet new people at the Lakes/Rivers, as long as there isn't too many ;)

Maybe I'll have a chance at going out again this year :good .  My back has been feeling better since my last DR. Visit (Thanks to the meds increase :D ) but I've since sold all of my good motors....But, I have a motor sitting here ready to be built and thrown into a boat.  I just might start tearing it down this weekend and rebuild it and throw it in the boat :D  :good

Same crossed my mind too....The odds of accidents certainly increase when more boats are squeezed onto the lake. And then you combine that with a narrower river portion the odds increase even more so.
I drive my boat on the river much like I drive on a two lane highway...expecting the other guy to cross my path, so I'm on high alert and ready for evasive action....always.
Boat smart you all, and stay within your logical thinking limits.

Go to Lake Powell on a busy/holliday weekend, it's the same situation in alot of the canyons... even more out of control since the lake patrols are few and far between.  Lake Powell is OUI central.

We always just upped the awareness level a couple notches, slowed down a little, and generally tried to watch out for the other guy.
