We're coming up from Tucson next weekend.  Bringing my  boat, staying in Needles and launching there.  Couldn't find any decent accomodations in Havasu (holiday weekend -they're booked up).  I have a question for any Needles/Topock/Havasu locals.  We want to launch from Needles in the morning, go down to Havasu to party during the day, then head back up to Needles in the evening.  Not sure about the water level in the river, does is stay deep enough to travel back up at night, or is the water level too low to navigate at night?  Last time we were up there it got a little shallow at night, just wondering what the water depth conditions are this time of year.  Don't want to get stranded or hit a rock.  Also, Its just gonna be me and my gal, we like to party - any MUST SEE spots that we should look for this trip.  Thanx much ,  Kurt

Well welcome to the mess :good  thats 3 from Tucson on HD's :jumpie From what I've heard your launching in the morning from Needles may be tough. What kind of boat?

You'll have to hook up with me and Sleekjet at Hooters, or if thats not good we can find someplace else.

That would be "Sleek-Jet and I".  :D  :bebe

Welcome to Doug's.  Pretty cool we have another Tucsonian hangin' around.  We'll have to get togather for a frosty beverage sometime.

As far as Needles, I think it depends on what kind of boat you're running.  There's a few peeps that frequent that part of the river, they should know.   :good

Well I don't know how it is now but two weeks ago it was up(not real high) in the morning and by 10:00am it was low, in fact there were times when people were walking their boats out of the marina at Needles, even the the ditch pumpers, one morning I saw one idle out and before he got out he had to walk it back in, he plugged up the pump with weeds and mud!..Talked to a cop and he said they had it down because they were still looking for a body, they found it but never did raise the water!.. :rolleyes

Thanx guys.  I'm running a 20 foot Glastron V-hull prop boat, nothing fancy.  It really doesn't run that deep, but still want to be careful.  Kinda sucks how they make it so hard to plan trips with the fluctuating water levels.  I checked out the Bureau of Reclamation website about the water levels and dam runoff schedule, but it don't make much sense to me! I can't see how it relates to actual water depth in different parts of the river.  If we can't get too far out of the Needles area, is there anything to do around there?  Haven't explored the river north of there, or the Topock area.  Actually thinking about just going down to Parker and staying there instead, still rooms available there.  Any ideas??

On the river at Needles, you should have no problems with depth SOUTH of the I-40 bridge.

If you stay in Needles, launch at Maobi (my preference).  It's got a nice deep channel out to the river, but you'll have to trailer down to get there.  Got a "funky" launch ramp with cement "bumpers" though.  From there, you can go up river to ski/tube/wakeboard or go south and enjoy the sights (you can't tube/ski in the Topock Gorge).

Lots of beach areas on the river, north and south.  If you go south into the Gorge, there's a nice lil' cove & beach on the AZ side as you head into Devil's Elbow.

The infamous Sanbar is a few miles further south.

In Needles, you can launch at Needles Marina or Jack Smith Park if you'd like, their exits to the river are a little shallow.  I've had to "walk" my boat out before...

My favorite area to boat; have fun..!!! :good

We'll be in Havasu this weekend. You might check Havasu Springs 928-667-3361. I just cancelled a reservation a couple days back.  :D

I was at Needles this past weekend. Jack Smith was as dry as a bone.....Needles Marina is good at sunrise 'til about 7ish...in the morning you should have the ramp to yourself. The water is on it's way down until the late afternoon. Moabi is the place most of the bigger boats are going.

Water level on the river was fine. Lotta "stuff" floating in the water Saturday for some reason. So keep an eye out.

The only problem is that with the short hours everyone shows up just before sunset to pull. So don't be surprised to see a late afternoon crowd.

The ramp at Needles Marina is a pos and when the water is low you're lucky to get 2 boats side by side (providing 1 knucklehead doesn't squat right in the middle. Stay away from the side of the ramp near the guest dock. It's broken off and your trailer will drop off the lip.

It isn't a bad drive to Havasu from Needles. I'll be doing that weekend after next for at least one of the days. The public ramp in Havasu is good.
