Okay here's the deal AZKC & Wifey....
If you get your navel pierced while there at the river you won't be able to go in the water. Well... that's what they say anyways. They tell you not to go to the river for like 2 to 4 months, something crazy like that. They say the water could get it infected. Yuk... But.... I believe Ms KH went to the river like the next weekend after getting hers done and had no problems.
It does hurt, but the degree of pain depends on the individual's tolerance to pain. Ms KH had no problem, me on the other hand, well... I passed out, but I'm a wimp.
It takes awhile to heal, which also depends on the individual. I have some friends that healed within a week or so, but there have been some people that have taken the 4 months to heal and there have also been some people that had to take it out all together because it got so bad. Most women have no serious problems with it, but the possibility is there that you could have problems. You have to take real good care of it. If you wash it like two to three times a day for the first few weeks and you shouldn't have a problem.
Another factor: Sex... the girl should not have any rubbing against it for a while (like 2 to 3 wks). That doesn't mean you can't make love to your significant other, it just means you have to be a little creative... keep friction away from the belly.
The clothing factor: If you are use to wearing undies, pants, skirts or shorts where the waist line rests on your belly, you can put those clothes away... You will need to wear your bottoms that rest below or above the navel for a while (at least 1 month).
A bonus up side: It helps you detect your weight gain. For the first several months (up to a year) you will notice any weight gain. It actually helped to keep my weight stable for a while, it hurts when your clothes are to tight regardless of where the waist line on your clothes fit. You can also feel the pressure from the ring (not real painful, just weird feeling) when you gain weight later after it heals.
I think that's it. I don't claim to be an expert by any means, I'm just sharing my experience with you. The up side to it all is that it makes for a sexy look, if you look sexy, you'll feel sexy, right ????
Hope that helps to answer any questions you may have had. AZKC, if your wife gets it pierced at the river, I'd recommend waiting until the last day on the water to do it, just to be safe. Wifey, that goes for you too.
