Known Myths

Police dispatch code for smoking pot is 420.
The number 420 is not police radio code for anything, anywhere. Checks of criminal codes suggest that the origin is neither Californian nor federal. For instance, California Penal Code 420 defines as a misdemeanor the hindrance of use of public lands.

There are approximately 420 active chemicals in marijuana.
Actually, there are approximately 315 active chemicals in marijuana. This number goes up and down depending on which plant is used.

April 20th is National Pot Smokers Day.
Well, it is now; but that wasn't the origin.

April 20th is Hitler's birthday.
Yes, it is his birthday. But, as 420 started out as a time, not a date, his birthday had nothing to do with it.

The date of the Columbine school shootings.
This happened after the term was already in use.

4:20 is tea time for pot-smokers in Holland.
Tea time in Holland is at 5:30 pm, or is it 2:30 pm? Seems no one is quite sure when the wonderful people of Holland drink their tea.

Which myth is your favorite?

4:20 is tea time for pot-smokers in Holland is my favorite one. Hemp tea I'm sure.

So Mr. HD did you celebrate the national holiday?  ;)

No Wifey, I didn't celebrate.  I just laugh everytime April 20th rolls around knowing it's a big day for some peeps.  Even though this event has been going on for a long time, I guess it's mostly the youngsters that know about it.  The box people at my store always seem to talk about it.  :laugh

Being out of the loop myself until just recently (thanks to you) it makes me wonder how many know about it, and how popular pot is with the teens? What drugs are the drugs of choice these days with the younger ones?

When I was in high school it was there, but not nearly as much as coccaine.

It's too bad kid have to do any drugs :(

WOW, you must've gone to a higher class high school than me. :p

We were all so poor, when we smoked weed, we actually smoked weeds!! :D :D You can get a mean high off of cheat grass and thistles!! :D

We couldn't afford to buy real beer for parties, we just drank the generic stuff that said "Beer" on the outside of the keg!!    :eek

J/K, it is to bad that kids do that kind of stuff (take drugs I mean), usually just to "be cool".  :(

You are reminding me of the time I was in 7th grade and a friend of mine and I tried to smoke coco...literally rolled up nestle quick coco in zig zag paper and burnt the snot out of our throats...oh wait...I think we burnt our throats when we tried to smoke parsley...yes...it looked like pot from the pictures and we figured it was close enough...flames shot down our throats and literally burnt us. :rolleys

Good thing though, sort turned us off of drugs early. :D  :rotflmao

Hey JBB,

I am cleaning my .45 right now!  "How's it?"

I heard something about 4/20 going with the old Earth Day thing and just figured most "granola graduates" in Berkeley were into celebrating the earth with some gonja.  Lots of urban legends on this term.

And yes, definately no police code 4-20 in Ca. for old mary jane.

As "420" draws near, I thought this was too funny. :rotflmao

My employer is sending all of us to hear a motivational speaker.  The notice on the wall says the "Happy Bus" will pick us up and take us to "Happy Camp" coincidently on April 20th. :rotflmao
