My brother in law just purchased a used 2000 SeaRay with a 5.0 and Alpha drive, the dealer said it could use the 100 hr service and gave him the numbers of a couple of places but those places qouted him at least 600.00 bucks. Anyone know if that sounds right , seemed odd to me , or of any good service or mechanics that can get this done for him he lives in Whittier. Thanks for the help in advance. Mike VG

Did he get an owners manual with the boat? If so it should list what needs to be done and when. There might be some stuff that can be handled at home :break I'm not much into outdrives but they do require some maintance (ie...water pump, fluid changes, etc...) Find out what the shops are doing and how much is parts and how much is labor. I worked at auto dealers in service and parts, I'm sure its close to the same gig. Some maintance is allways needed but some is just money makers for the shop and alot of techs don't do everything their getting paid to do(ie...ck bolts for tightness, fluid levels, misc inspections, etc....)

Hope this helps, just my .02  :good

I have a 1982 SunRay with a Buick 3.8 V6 and a OMC outdrive. Total hours on the boat engine and outdrive are 337hrs. Never had to do one single thing to that outdrive. Not even the impeller pump. Still the original one in there. Very reliable and runs great. I do check the oil level in it often to make sure it's clean and topped off. :good

Most places charge by the hour. Some where around $90/hr.
I dont know what exaclty needs to be done, (I have a jet)
I was quoted around $300 for an oil change, and what ever came along with it. I just needed an oil change, so I ended up doing it myself.  :D

I'd find out what the 100 hour deal includes and see if some could be done himself.  Can't imagine what $600 bucks worth would be.  None of the good service guys are cheap though.  Can't afford to be and stay in business with today's high overhead costs.  One guy that comes to mind on service is Brian @ B&D in El Monte, not too far from Whittier.  Does good work and is fair to my knowledge.  I'm sure there are others too (I tend to get in trouble when I recommend someone just for that reason).  Anyway, good luck.
