So... I'm laying on the couch last night, channel surfing, when my dog runs out the bedroom with kind of a goofy look on her face.  She's running around all hibbly-bibbly and scratching at her ear.

Now, we've been having a bit of a "parasite" problems (tics), so I figure she's got one on her ear.  I get down and look everything over, and she looks ok, but I notice the inside of one of her ears is kind of red.  I didn't really think anything of it, and just chalked it up to her being a goof ball some of the time (ok, most of the time... :D )

Off puppy goes back into the bedroom, presumabley to see what Becky is doing.  The next thing I hear is Becky asking me to "Come here, right now!!"  Considering Becky is in the bedroom and calling for me, I oblige.

I walk around the corner, and there is Alley, puffing up and swelling before my eyes...  :eek Her poor nose was all lumpy and here jowels all swollen, eyelids puff and she just looked miserable.

I run accross the street to the Quick Stop and get her some Benadryl, then high tail it back to the house.  She's not having any problems breathing or anything, but she's swollen up like water balloon all around her head.  Being the little piggy she is, Alley wolfs down the Benadryl and then crawl onto my lap on the floor...  :rolleyes nothing like having 70 lbs of sick labrador in your lap for fun on a Sunday evening.

The drugs do the trick and the swelling goes down in about 15 minutes.  Of course now my dog is drugged up, she was pretty out of it.  I got no sleep last night, since I woke up every hour to make sure she was still breathing, which was easy to tell because she was snorring  :sleep

Is having kids any easier???

Man that sucks!!!  I hope she is doing better.  Any Idea what may have bit her?? My Anatolian got a hold of a frog once.  I say once  because by the time the vet and I got done with him he would have nothing to do with them any more.  :D

I don't think it was a frog since she was inside for an hour or so before this all happened.

My guess is she either sniffed up a spider, or ate one...

No news is good news... I told Brother Sleek to call if she got any worse.  :good  The vet said to give her one more Benadryl if she's still a little swollen.

Angie here--

Glad to hear she's okay. . . and no, it is no easier with kids, except once they hit about 3 they can start to tell you where it hurts or what they did.  Cute little things like, "I put a crayon in my nose," and other adorable things like that which cause emergency room visits on Saturday nights.  :banghead

As for kids being easier...nope, well maybe when they are older and can tell you what happened...but as for the non-speaking kids it's about the same, except you can't leave them at home when you want to run to the market.  :rolleyes

Wait...BECKY...last I recall you were single...details...I need details???  :D

As for kids being easier...nope, well maybe when they are older and can tell you what happened...but as for the non-speaking kids it's about the same, except you can't leave them at home when you want to run to the market.  :rolleyes

That's what you get for being MIA all the time... :D

I fully plan on crate training my kids... hey, the dog doesn't seem to mind it to much. :good  :laugh

And FYI everyone... Alley is back to her old self as of this morning...  :cool Thanks for all the well wishes...

OH I read that wrong...when you said crate train your kids...I was thinking kidS being plural you meant you had two dogs now...

Ahhhh...brain fart....sorry...

Congrats on the new love life...hope it's blissful...as for searching, that's too much work...need a link :) LOL
