Does anybody know just what the law reads regarding boating and drinking on the river these days? Last time I was there, you could have an open container in your boat, and even drink, as long as you weren't drunk, and were operating safely. We would drive upstream around noon, to the north dam, then float down river the rest of the day, until we got to our slip at the south end. Â We would have a few beers while floating, maybe stop in at Fox's or Roadrunner for a beer and shrimp cocktail, then float on downstream to park the boat for the night - no harm done. 1. Is it still legal to have open containers? 2. Can you drink and boat, if you are operating safely, and under legal limit - or will they pull you over and ticket you if the see any kind of drinking? 3. Are there any more rules or laws that changed recently that we should all be aware of? 4. What else to be aware of/watch out for? I'm all for pulling the drunken idiots off the river as soon as you see em, but I am wondering if the Lawdogs are are now letting those idiots ruin it for everybody. Thanx!
Drink more beer!

You could strap one on top of the blower. Only in Parker though, don't think it's allowed anywhere else. |
Too much wind resistance!..

Quote (LookMaNoHands @ Oct. 04 2007,2:29 pm) | Does anybody know just what the law reads regarding boating and drinking on the river these days? Thanx! |
The same "don't be drunk and don't do anything stupid" applies to boating. There is no ZERO TOLERANCE, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see it one of these days. Open container in a boat if fine, just don't be over the legal limit (assuming you know what that is and when you have reached that point).
My theory if you're operating a boat is . . . no beers until the boats parked for the night. Maybe I'll have one on the water if we're not going anywhere for an hour or so, but that's pretty rare. I've followed this theory and have seen many reminders of why I still follow it. A few examples that I have seen where alcohal was a factor... the drunk guy that almost plowed into me (everyone can probably say they've had this happen numerous times). The PWC that t-boned another boat and then made it sound like he was the victim. The boat accident where there were no sober people to help each other during crisis....etc.etc..
I am the boat operator that is serving cocktails, making drinks, and offering beers to all my friends who are with me. Still having a good time and partying with everyone. I'm also the guy offering water and gatorade to the guy that's tied up to my boat who's the other drive.
