Well, I'm finally becoming an Elk - specifically at the Orange, CA lodge. :good

Â My Dad has been in it for around 15 years, so I've been down there many times as his guest. Â My sister and a couple of her friends that I've known for around 20 years decided to join, so now a couple of my brothers and I are joining too.

I just got back from having dinner and beer at the lodge. :beer

Â Seated at my table was our Leading Knight who will be our Exalted Ruler next year. Â Coincidently, I bought a truck from him 5 years ago. :laugh

And it's cheap too.

Seriously though, it's a way to socialize with people from your town and the group does alot of things to raise money for good things. Â For example, our lodge just raised enough $$$ to buy a dictionary for every third grader in our city. :good

It's a cool building in Old Towne Orange. :cool

We use the second and third floors and lease out the bottom floor for retail space.

What's really cool is every Labor Day weekend, the city blocks off all the surrounding street for the city's Annual International Street Fair. There is food and music from all over the world and lots of beer drinking. :beer

Instead of using the outhouses provided by the city, the Elks can just go into the lodge. :good

I must say, those societies can be fun. When spending some time in Canada I noticed everyone belongs to the Canadian Legion. Anyway, seems that was the place to go and get pissed for very cheap. Everyone knew everyone and it was actually a blast.
I can see the Elks being the same, have a groovy time Doug.

My dad was an Elk. I still have his ring and tie clip. I think they used to be big on the symbology thing.

OK, it's official. I am member #4453 of Orange Lodge 1475 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks of the U.S.A.

Tonight was the last step in the process. It was initiation night, which a very formal portion of the meeting. All of the officers wore tuxedos, speech's were made, antlers were rubbed, hand gestures exchanged, all in a dimly light lodge room accompanied with live organ music. The only thing that was missing was smoke. :rotflmao

Afterward, the beer flowed freely in the club room. :beer
