I'm taking the US Postal Service Exam and wondering if anyone had any input on the postal service and getting hired....  TIA.

I also have a friend who works for the post office, and he hates it.  He has been part time for over 2 years.  He says you have to wait for someone to die to get a promotion.

My sister in law has worked for the USPS for 16 years, she just finally got to the point that she can have Christmas during the Holiday's, it is definitely one of those places that seniority rules. Good Luck T...

My sister has been with them 14 or 15 years and still hates it. Mnmt. is always up to something. :fouet
One of my favorites is the employees being timed with a stop watch on how long it takes to use the restrooms. When exiting questioned as to was that a #1 or #2.

Our regular postman is a great guy, never misses a beat. But he's on vacation right now and the knucklehead who took his place is a big doofus!

My wife called to complain because every single day we have gotten someone else's mail and one day some of our mail was just thrown on the front step - probably by a neighbor who got it by mistake.

She got a call back from the head guy and he said we aren't the only ones to complain. That this guy is on his way out, but he couldn't fire him. They had to wait for him to give notice. Tomorrow is his last day, whew!

I'd hate to be in a position where I had to accept sub par performance... :banghead

It's a fact of Life:

After Monday and Tuesday, even the Calendar says : WTF .......

I was a Systems Analyst for HP's Major accounts.  (IBM, Motorola, Boeing)

Was layed off in Dec of 06 due to "workforce reduction".  In other words, after I trained the Guadalahara folks, they shipped 90% of the work there.  Now a major portion of it is coming back.

Out of 8000 people in our building, there were 125 left in Dec.  As of now there are approx 70 with more cuts on the way.  Sad, very sad.

Hey Traci,
Generally the post office hires extra people during the holiday season(seasonal hires) but many will get the chance to stay on with the USPS and work their way up.....
I say this with knowledge from an aquaintance of mine.
I also got the letter in the mail from the post office soliciting extra carriers.

Took the postal exam several years ago and actually scored pretty high on it (according to them). Went out on my first interview and never went back for another. Like stated earlier, it's pretty much part-time until somebody dies (and for some reason, postal workers seem to live forever) and spoke to others about their interview and it seemed that each post office was pretty much its own little entity; run however the postmaster wanted. The postmaster that interviewed me pretty much told me that I'd get 3-4 days a week for the first year and that if I were to call off sick for one day, that my "postal career" would be, for all intente and purposes, over. Good luck! The post office does not appear to be as sweet a deal as one might think. Know some that like it; and stop and think; "why is the new term for goin' crazy called "GOIN' POSTAL?" :eek

While your at it, look into UPS and FedEx. Both are great companies that offer great benefits. Just my 2 coppers.... :peace

That's an affirmitive! The daughter-in-law works for UPS at the Ontario airport. She puts in anywhere from 3 to 6 hours a night @ $14/hr., Mon' - Fri., and gets FULL medical for herself and the family at no cost! Not to mention that her starting time is when she gets there and she leaves pretty much whenever she wants. Now that's a job! :good Any wonder why it costs what it costs to ship anything with "The Brown"?  :confused
