Anaheim Hills crash kills driver, hurts passenger Driver loses control on Santa Ana Canyon Road, slams into telephone pole. By SERENA MARIA DANIELS and KIMBERLY EDDS The Orange County Register Comments | Recommend ANAHEIM - A 20-year-old driver was killed and his passenger was seriously injured when their car careened off the side of Santa Ana Canyon Road and slammed into a telephone pole Friday afternoon. The trapped driver was pulled from the car just before it was engulfed by flames.
The midday accident closed a section of Santa Ana Canyon Road between Lakeview Avenue and Royal Oak Road.
Justin Simpkins, 20, of Anaheim was driving on Santa Ana Canyon about 12:05 p.m. when he suddenly lost control near Lakeview Avenue and veered off the road, sending the car plummeting down the embankment and into a telephone pole, Anaheim Police Sgt. Mike Lynch said.
The car burst into flames with Simpkins trapped in the driver’s seat, buckled in. His passenger suffered major injuries when he was thrown from the car.
An Anaheim police motor officer cut Simpkins out of his seatbelt and two people helped pull the badly injured man from the car before it erupted into flames, Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez said. Simpkins later died at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Anaheim.
The passenger was rushed to UCI Medical Center. His name has not been released.
Anaheim traffic officers are investigating why Simpkins lost control of his car. The crash was just 100 yards from where Esperanza High School cross country coach Ryan Bousquet, 25, of Yorba Linda died after his motorcycle slid off the road and slammed into a guardrail in August.

No I saw it, I just worded it wrong I should have stated that instead of asking!. The point is the passenger wasn't "strapped in" but the driver was, there's a message there!.

Quote (Purple Jurk @ Dec. 03 2007,6:44 am) | Kids will never learn that raceing on the street is not Cool and this is just another stupid move like that guy doing 219 mph in the lambo! Â |
Yep, and a lot of that is from lack of tracks, they keep closing down, I see a big increase here once Firebird closes, "Friday Night Drags" draws a huge crowd sometimes!.. As far as that guy going 219 on the freeway, he's a fockin nut case and should be put away!..

Quote (WATERDOG @ Jan. 14 2008,3:57 pm) | Talked with Ryan and his mom today. He and many other witnesses say he lost control and spun out twice going up the road before the accident. The police forensics people and Ryan are both saying the car left the road at more than 130 MPH. The other driver received a letter in the mail last Friday that they will be prosecuting him for vehicular manslaughter, as well as a felony hit and run. I seems that even though he never left the scene, He never mentioned to LEO's that he was the driver of the other car. That's gonna hurt. |
