So we left California about 1 pm Friday and made it into Cedar City at around 9 pm. It was clear and colder than a well diggers . Mostly because I wasn't dressed properly. I was wearing my cotton sports socks (ankle high) and my slip on clogs. I didn't expect it to be cold until around Salt Lake, so I dressed for Vegas. We saw the first snow in Mesquite. It was 16 degrees in Cedar City. I didn't have any gloves on, and no long under-britches. So, yes, I was cold. That was the last time, though. Next day it was sweater, undershirt, super socks and uggs. It got down to -4 going over the pass north of Cedar City, then warmed up to about 20-30 for the rest of the trip, until we hit that same area on the way home and it was +6.
We got to Montana at about 2 pm Sunday after many necessary stops like Cabela's and Murdoch's (local ranch store).
Here is the first thing we saw when we pulled up the night before
We were near a bridge and the ducks and geese hang out under it and had a party all day and night. I'm thinking they were buddies with Scuba Steve.
Here is the view off the back patio
The girls decorated the tree when we got there
That night we went to bed and when I woke up, the mountain looked beautiful so I decided to take a picture. I couldn’t find my camera, but I figured it would turn up, so I used my friend Jen’s camera and took the shot.
So we got ready to go check out the resort and Katrina went to go get her snow pants on and couldn’t find them. She swore she hung them next to the door on the coat rack. So we spend about ½ hour looking for them, with Jeff getting ticked off. Then Cody goes to get his jacket and it’s also AWOL. Our friend Gary said he couldn’t find his gloves. Then Jeff remembers that I couldn’t find my camera and asks me where my wallet is. I said I left it in my jacket pocket last night (we walked to a bar). I go to check my jacket, which is right near the door and guess what . . . NO WALLET! It is at this moment that we realize that we had been burgled on our first night there. I call the bar to verify that I had not left my wallet there and then call the police. An officer arrived within 5 minutes. We cancel all of our credit cards and there have been no charges on them yet. Gary insists he locked the deadbolt before he went to bed, so whoever broke in had a key. The really scary thing is that Katrina slept on the couch, so the burglar reached right in front of her to take the camera off of the coffee table. Jeff and I slept on the bottom floor and he heard someone walking around about 3 or 3:30 and assumed it was someone going to the bathroom upstairs. Thankfully, I brought a lot of cash and it wasn’t in my wallet. There was only about $50 in it.
So we didn’t get to the ski resort until around 5 pm and got our rentals, lift tickets and lessons taken care of for the next day. Then head to one of the bars to meet a friend who lives up there. We had our rip and shred fest that night (Christmas Eve).
The next morning (Christmas) we get up early and head up the mountain
Ready to go (notice the supplies in the bed of the truck)
All of us got a full day of lessons, only Jeff had skied before, but it had been 20 years and never had a lesson, so he got a lot out of it. My goal was to get down the bunny slope at least once without falling and I did it!
The next morning, we get up again for a second day of snow. We had about 2 inches of fresh powder overnight.
It snowed so much that day, that every time we went up the lift, we had about 1-2 inches of fresh powder. The kids and I took a second day of lessons, and Jeff went off with our friends who talked him into going to the summit.
I ended up getting a private lesson for a group lesson rate (the groups were only 4-5 people), because there was no one else at my skill level that day. By the end, I was feeling pretty good about the bunny slopes. They had lessons all the way up to black diamond level, so that was pretty cool. Can’t wait to do it again!
By 3 pm, I was about done, so I turned in all my rentals. Man, I was glad to get those ski boots off! I sat next to the fireplace with my mocha spiked with about 3 shots of peppermint schnapps and listened to the Michael Martin Murphy sounding guitar player. This was the highlight of my birthday. I was all by myself, just listening to this guy play next to the huge fireplace and drinking my toddy. The family ended up joining me within an hour or two
Jeff and the guys went four-wheeling the next day while us girls went shopping. We also caught a movie while we were there and just hung around and relaxed. We had planned on going snowmobiling, but had to give that up due to financial constraints. We needed to make sure we had enough cash to get home in case an emergency came up.
That about sums it up, I suppose.
