James and I drove to Wilcox, AZ to meet with the breeder that I have been corresponding with for several months now. Â We had first pick of the 4 females available. Â This is our golden retriever puppy, Molly!!! Â We don't get to bring her home for another 4 weeks, but I am so excited!! Â Our new boating buddy! Â This dog has no idea how spoiled she is going to be!

You made me LOL with that comment. Next stage is the chew everything in sight. Next is digging everywhere in the yards(two year stint). Then they become perfect pets . Only pound puppies for me. I really believe they know you saved them from extinction. |
Yeah, I agree on the pound puppies thing... I grew up with two labs and they were both adopted. Â The very same with the two cats that I had growing up. Â James and my cat right now is an adoptee as well. Â We searched the rescue groups for goldens and also the pounds in Phoenix and even in SD, but all of the dogs were older than what we wanted. Â There are going to be a lot of things that this dog needs to learn, ie: rules of the house, rules of the boat, ect and I don't want any behavioral issues. Â Our last lab was extremely agressive toward other dogs which was fine because we just kept him away from other dogs, but with a dog that is going to be on the sandbar with other dogs and not to mention kids, it is very important to me that we have a desireable temperment. Â Don't get me wrong, I in no way am implying that rescue dogs have bad temperments, but after my last experience, I just wanted to be sure to get one young enough to train the way that I want. Â When we have babies, I don't want to have to worry about some suppressed agression coming out on my kid or someone else. Just some thoughts I guess regarding our decision to buy from a breeder.... somehow I feel like I need to justify myself because of the guilt I feel . Â When we decided to go with a breeder I also began making contributions every paycheck to the Phoenix Humane Society (AMEX matches my amount, so they get a pretty nice amount every two weeks).... Â Anyway, enough of that... Time to go home!

Temperament is something that is in a dog's DNA. Buying from a breeder you should have no problems at all. Especially with a Golden.
