Wow, we made it out of Mammoth yesterday. After the snow had fallen our second level condo appeared to be the ground floor level. We had trees outside the windows when we arrived but they ended up totally covered/buried. Plows were working overtime to keep the town running and the main roads accessible. We arrived late Wednesday and went to grocery store to get my daughter an inhaler(she forgot hers)....when we entered the place it looked like it had been hit by Angies thieves, the shelves were 75% empty. Not an exageration. To be totally honest we didn't realize the approaching storm had been deemed quite so big. The clerks were working like mad to restock what they had received, you literally had to climb over everything to get thru an aisle, forget about a shopping cart getting down most. I suddenly became aware of what was going on overhearing a clerk saying how the place got stripped because reverse911 calls were made to locals to stock up for the "Big Storm". So we bought what we could to sustain ourselves for the planned 3-4 days and perhaps longer. Not one single loaf of bread was in the store but I got lucky and found some dinner rolls tucked in behind stacked boxes.. Some bacon(the very last package), eggs, loads of water and other essentials. Skiied Thursday but it was windy and cold, especially on the lifts. Daughter and her friend ended up lost on the mountain, we got them directions on how to get back from where they'd ended up but ultimately they got in over their heads....we sent the ski-patrol up to go get them for a free snowmobile ride back to our Lodge... Friday was blizzard conditions so we stayed indoors, watched movies and did a lot of reading.......jacuzzied that eve in the outdoor spa, rolled around in the snow too Saturday still blizzardy and windy so we opted not to try the slopes but rather go into the town and find a pub....which we did Rode the Gondola from there up to the Ski Lodge just to see how it looked... Loads of people skiing but they only had a few lower lifts running so the slope was PACKED with people and long lift lines....it couldn't have been all that fun; cold, windy, heavy snowfall and huge crowds. Hit the jacuzzi Saturday night again, it had about 4 feet of snow surrounding it so you had to wade thru the waist deep fluffy snow to get in it...LOL...we had a blast and laughed a bunch with a few other brave folks(ok some were hotties) that ventured into the spa. We'd learned from the day before it was advantagous to wear a hat or beanie into the jacuzzi. In the 20-30 minutes we stayed in about 5" of snow collected on our heads. Sunday we awoke to sunshine and roads still being cleared, 395 had still been closed early that morning but by the time we packed up and left it was open to certain vehicles and/or 4x4 with proper tires. We headed out and through the CHP checkpoint with a wave although 75% of the people were pulled to the side by them. Paranoid people driving 15-20 mph hour on the 395 as we mosey'd on by at 40-45. 395 had snow covering it til just a few miles from Bishop. First time I've ever seen snow in Bishop myself although I'm sure it happens now and then. . Fun trip but didn't get much skiing time as we'd hoped. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Good to hear that you are home safe. I'm jealous! Mammoth is one of my favorite places to go boarding and the hubby and my trip last year was sort of a fairwell to that locale since it would be crazy to drive there from AZ when we could just drive to CO. Lots of good memories of Mammoth. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your time away despite the conditions!

Now why would I leave the best part out?  . I haven't even gotten to the dry sauna story yet  . BTW--I still got have your Christmas gift waiting to meet you. |
Sweet, I have a couple dozen golf balls in the back of my ride for you, wanna meet for Lunch Friday...
So have you got your haircut yet??? Â Â Covert action??? Â Â
BTW, this thread is useless without pics... Â |
I think Friday would be doable... . No haircut yet, not since Sept., partly for my girl that passed away and partly cuz Jan says its cute . I will gladly go and do some recon on the other hairdresser :D

Glad you had a great time, in spite of the small amount of skiing. Jacuzzis, beautiful women and booze always help  Just being in a beautiful place away from home is enough for me.
