I pulled the transfer case on my wifes tahoe today.  What a bitch.  The hardest part was removing the cross member.

Has anyone ever removed the second cross member that has the torsion bars in it.  I'd like to remove it when I reinstall the transfer case, but I don't want to screw it up.  It has adjustment bolt's on it and I don't want to get the bars out of wack.

I don't think I have to, it would just make it easier to stab the transfer case with them out.

As far as the Torsion bars... I  keep track of the number of turns it takes to loosen the bars, then on the go back tighten them down that many turns... it works...  :good you have to put a little mark on the socket so you can count the number of revolutions though...

A couple more things... if you are going to completely remove them from the truck, mark them as to left and right.  Also, mark the lower control arm so you can index the torsion bar when you re-install it.
