I make them on the rocks. Got to use Jose Gold or 1800. I do want to try the Black though.

Quote (tonedog @ Mar. 04 2008,1:06 pm) | I've had the black, don't know that it would be good in a margarita. Â It's more like a whiskey or bourbon taste, better to sip on ice or mix with coke. |
HMMMM?? That sounds tasty!!

Quote (tonedog @ Mar. 04 2008,12:56 pm) | I guess that I didn't post my speacial blend. So here it is, the Tonedog Margarita:
16 oz glass 4 oz (plus or minus) tequilla 1 oz (or a splash) triple sec a generous squirt of lime juice ice top with sweet and sour mix 1-2 oz Patron Citronge (orange liqueur) Garnish with a lime wedge
I'm not big on mixing things, I just put the ingredients in the glass in order, and always lots of ice. Â The real key is to float the orange liqueur on the top ( you can use Grand Mariner or whatever you perfer). I don't think that the tequilla matters much when you mix it in something strong tasting like this. I'm also too lazy to squeez fresh lime juice, but it's best if you do, and make fresh sweet and sour also. Â
So that is my favorite Margarita, which I believe is the perfect Lake Havasu drink.
Lets see your favorite drink recipe, and what makes it speacial. |
Maybe I'm just picky. I think the tequila makes a big difference. I always use 1800. I have a recipe here someplace that uses Key limes and it sets for 24 hours before drinking. Supposed to be the worlds best margarita. Who could wait 24 hours.

And I stand by my statement, it's much more about the liqueur floater than the tequilla. After you sip that shot off of the top, you don't even realize there's tequilla in there. And if you do, you didn't put enough Citronge in there.
Just livin' the dream in Lake Havasu....... www.vistadellago.info

Going by the your recipe list and not mixing, tequila on the bottom and liqueur on top, I guess your right.
