So while I was gone Beck had some BMW issues. While she was driving all the warning lights came on and the radio started trippin out :break She texts me and says it wont start and shes getting a ride to work. Then she text me and it started and shes taking it to Pep Boys :eek  :say?  cause its close. They call her later and says it needs a battery. I tell her NFW "Give me the guys number"  :angry So I bust the guys balz for a while and he really can't give me a straight answer. They didn't even charge the battery, So I tell jackass, charge the battery and ck it agian. 2 hours later, Beck calls and  the battery is all of the sudden fine :flamed  :beat Needs an alternator, none in town, 3-5 days to get one, $450 installed, BLA BLAH Blah.

I tell her to get the f'n car out of there and I'll ck it when I get home. She drives it home on battery power and uses the RX-7 the rest of the week.

Part 2

I get home and ck the alternator, and sure as shiznit its bad. Dealer want $528.60 for a reman and non stocking 2-3 days out.  :phone  :phone  :phone 5-6 places find one at the Auto Zoners (I really don't like using that crap but I figure I'll give it a try.) Beck picks it up on her way home and I start yanking the old one, actually not to bad to get out about 45 minutes.

She gets home and I match them up and things are good to go. I'll leave the whole Bosch/Valeo drama out :rolleyes

Part 4

All back together, ck voltage on the battery, got a little over 12. Good to go. Fire up the car and the freaking alternator is screaming :eek  like a Banshee on crack :banghead  :banghead :pissed  :angry

Not sure if the battery voltage was to low and popped a diode when it went full field or the fockers just built a piece of poo poo with a bad diode. Either way I gota change it out, but of course it was the only one in town. Focking 3-5 days we get to listen to the wail of the Banshee

Part 5

So now the dilemma starts. Do I just try another from the Zoners? Do I get the original rebuilt? The Dealer may be an option but 5 hundy :rolleyes  won't work, I'll have to get a buddy of mine thats works there to buy it. Then theres the replace the OEM 80amp with a 140 amp dilemma :stupid  its a pretty easy swap (yeah right).

Part 6

Oh Yeah :D The car has a air cooling duct that is supposed to help cool the alternator, runs from up on top of the radiator down to the back of the alternator. Pretty neat idea, except for this :eek Found all this under the cover on the back.

I've always just put new brushes and voltage regs in my altinators.  Had a Benz w/ $500 altinator, put in a $50 voltage regulator (was a plugin with brushes attached), in the dealer parking lot and drove home.

I'd bet( if any still are around out there) that a Auto Electric Shop would have or could get the pieces needed to fix'r up...diode packs, brushes, etc.
It would take a few days probably but you'd have saved a few weekends worth of fuel money.  ;)

I've been looking for parts for an hour or so now... can't find new brushes or rectifiers for the Valeo alternators.  You can get new voltage regulators for them, but they are a C note at least.  Take that new rebuilt POS back and swap out the regulator on the old one, I bet it works.

Now if it was a Bosch... parts for those things are all over the place...
