this was posted on a different forum I thought I'd share...LOL

THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
With their tedious diatribes about how hard things were
When they were growing up; what with walking
Twenty-five miles to school every morning ... Uphill BOTH ways

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
There was no way in hell I was going to lay
A bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it
And how easy they've got it!
But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of
Thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my
Childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!
And I hate to say it but you kids today you
Don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The
Internet . If we wanted to know something,
We had to go to the damn library and
Look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!
There was no email!! We had to actually write
Somebody a letter with a pen!
Then you had to walk all the way across the street and
Put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to
Steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!
Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the
Beginning and @#*% it all up!
We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you
Were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either!
When the phone rang, you
Had no idea who it was! It could be your school,
Your mom, your boss, your
Bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you
Just didn't know!!! You had
To pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video
Games with high-resolution
3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games
Like 'Space Invaders' and
'asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You
Actually had to use your
Imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or
Screens, it was just one screen
Forever!

And you could never win. The game just kept getting
Harder and harder and
Faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such
Thing as stadium seating!
All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy
Or some old broad with a hat
Sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were
Just screwed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that
Was only like 15 channels
And there was no on screen menu and no remote
Control! You had to use a
Little book called a TV Guide to find out what was
On! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off
Your ass and walk over to the TV to change the
Channel and there was no
Cartoon Network either! You cou ld only get cartoons
On Saturday Morning. Do you
Hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK
For cartoons, you spoiled
Little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat
Something up we had to
Use the stove or go build a frigging fire ..
Imagine that! If we wanted
Popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing
And shake it over the stove
Forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids
Today have got it too easy.
You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted
Five minutes back in 1980!

if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all

I find myself saying things like that all the time.  Especially the cell phone thing.  I used to always make sure I had a quarter in my pocket to call and check in.  I don't think my kids would know how to use a payphone.

Well... I'm over 30 and I remember when my Mom got her first Microwave... I was about 5 if memory serves... I never had Jiffy Pop until my mid-20's... haven't had since either.

Other than that it's spot on... :D

Cable wasn't available where I lived.  We got CBS, NBC, ABC and sometimes PBS.  We had to like go outside and find something to do, if there wasn't anything on the tube.

It is disturbing (to me at least) to see little kids with all this techie stuff.  I fear we're creating a society of social morons.  No one is that important that they need to be on their cell 24/7...anytime, anyplace, anywhere.  Same thing with the iPods.  I love my iPod, but I only use it when I'm traveling or driving, I can't fathom going to the grocery store with earbuds stuck in my ears.  And yesterday in Target I saw a kid about 8 or 9 with his iPod on. :rolleyes   I should have tweaked my degree emphasis to audiology, because hearing impairment is definitely on the rise.

Does anyone even know how to carry on a conversation anymore?  Do kids play outside these days?  I say put down the cell, the iPod, the wii and let's go play dodgeball! :jumpie  :laugh

We were on our way to some freinds here not long ago. Turned off the main street on to a side street, Went about 1ooyrds and said "WHOLY CRAP!!! The wife freeks thinking the truck was having issues or I was about to hit something. I said "look.... There's a kid riding a bike". About a 10 year old hauling but down the sidewalk on his BMX bike jumping the curb and having a good O'l time.  :good

My nephew rides his bike to the skate park.  But he'll only ride down to the park, he call's his mother to come pick him up so he doesn't have to ride uphill on the way home.

I can only imagine my parents response to that call...... :flamed

Damn kids today....spoiled with their fancy methamphetamine, the stuff that makes addiction to pot or ludes seem like cool aid. And today these damn kids are so spoiled with ever increasing pressures from society and their peers to have sex younger and younger, and even oral sex isn't really sex, right Mr. President??

Gangs, drugs, having to go through metal detectors in high school and getting frisked at proms, not for booze like in "my day" but for deadly weapons.....

Rushing our kids from soccer to gymnastics to karate then on to homework and "quick bites" at Quiznos cause there is no time for dinner anymore.....We don't want our kids to "miss out" on anything

I dunno, I kinda like the way I grew up, able to wander out into the desert with no fear of an Amber alert being broadcast about me, fishing until dark, playing sports we wanted, or not. We had to pursue the girls we wanted, not just "hook up"....But then I had to find out about rattle snakes and scorpions, and why you need ropes to climb big rocks the hard way...

I agree though that the kids today have it easier in many ways, but harder in many ways as well......

Face it. Growing up is just hard to do...(Or is that breaking up...I dunno....)

Maybe that's just the way its supposed to be...........

I don't know that I'd say they have it easier now.  Lord knows that if you don't have the coolest new stuff, you're ostracized.  Somewhere along the line we forgot to keep teaching kids about values.

So many parents are living their lives vicariously through their kids, hence the overscheduling issues (that wasn't even a WORD when we were kids) and kids with more mental and coping problems.  Some parents seem to think they will get kudos for rushing kids from activity to activity and appearing to be such a devoted, involved parents...meanwhile their kids are crying out for help.  I can't tell you how many times kids came to me crying about not wanting to do whatever activity but being too afraid to tell their parents, so they'd beg me to do it.  What the hell?  Kids should never be afraid to tell their parents anything. :banghead

It's hard to compare back to when we were kids, because the cool stuff is so much more high end now.  But even so, the pattern still existed.  Those who could least afford it always had the newest stuff the minute it hit the market, those that could afford it waited and earned it.

Growing up is hard to do...and we're not making it any easier. :(

I think with the internet and all the media that kids are exposed to today, they get pressured into growing up much faster than we did.  They get exposed to alot of things that we didn't experience until later in life.  And it's always 'I wanna do it now' never wait till you're ready.

Speaking of phones....growing up we had the rotary dial, partyline.  So if I wanted to call my friend on the same line I would have to dial a three digit number.  Then hang up until my phone quit ringing, and that ment that they had answered so I would pick up....and hope someone was on the other end..... :phone

Nowadays parents are afraid to let their children out of site, let alone play til streetlights came on.
LOL, I waited for the last light to go before going home :rotflmao
