My understanding is that it is a voluntary dimming of the lights.  No power outages, no disruption of stoplights or anything that could endanger folks, just a suggestion that they turn off unnecessary lights and applicances for an hour.

So true. And get the whole neighbor hood to stop paying too. That would make a statement. Move the frig outside, light the fireplace and by a candle. They still have Enron out there?

Then they will do what the cleveland water tempment did, and raise the rate to comp. the loss.

They do that everywhere. But if you're not paying the bill, rate hikes won't effect you.

I think it's a cool idea.  I just couldn't figure out if we were doing it at the same time as Sydney, or at 8:00 our time.  Did I mention it's my new year's resolution to consume less this year.  Using less water, recycling my water/gatorade bottles (about 1 1/2 bags a week! ) and trying to create less trash. Either reusing paper grocery bags or taking cloth ones, and burning as much paper as possible instead of throwing it in the trash.

Lawbreaker, you only have electric heat in your house?   We only have wood, but we have 2 electric heaters that help keep the chill off in the bedrooms.

BTW, you should have seen me ranting last week.  They passed a law out here making it illegal to burn wood in your fireplace as of November 2009.  What if that's all you have to heat with?  Not too sure what we're going to do.

Buy a couple ETS heaters....

http://www.steffes.com/offpeak/

These are a big deal back in Colorado (and other cold climates)... my Grandparent's house has one and the heating bill is rarely over 100.00/mo... the house is all electric.  We literally installed thousands of these units in member homes at the Coop I worked at back there.

There are a couple that are sized just for smaller rooms or for the entire house.  It's radiant heat with a fan (just like a stove) so it they heat the rooms much more evenly that forced air...

I have a friend that lives in Santiago Canyon in O.C. When OC passed a similar law way back, he found a way around it, being the only source or heat and all. Don't be worried yet.
