I need some info from any of you that would be willing to share. Â We're coming to Havasu in mid June for the first time in a bunch of years. Â I want to slip the boat for a few days to avoid the ramp rage on a daily basis.
It looks like Havasu Marina is the only option in or near town. Â Is that right? Â Also, I'm planning on arriving late on a Saturday afternoon and slipping Sunday through Wednesday night. Â Do you think that I'll have any trouble finding something available.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Sunday through Thursday you should have NO PROBLEM launching anywhere at the lake...no need to get a slip, but that's your choice. Launch at Windsor on day and go north, launch Cat-Tail the next and go south, etc.
Last time we got a slip (a few years back) at Havasu Marina it was "first come, first served" and no taking reservations. It's like $18.00 per day, IF they had any available. Ya gotta go down first thing in the morning (7am) or at closing (5pm) to see if any are available.
Over the years we have adopted the "launch daily" routine. More secure to have the boat back at the rental casa, easier to unload/re-pack/clean-up/etc. Nothing worse than hauling all the crap to-and-from the boat/truck.
What size is your boat..?? If your under 21'-22', you might get lucky...they give out the front slips on a daily basis, while your waiting for an upgrade back in the marina.
My 2¢....launch daily and prep the boat in the evening while enjoying a few adult sodas....

Hey, I appreciate the info. Â So here's what I think I learned...
1. Â Sounds like many of you don't bother with the slip, and launch daily. Â During the week sounds like it's not an issue. 2. Â Havasu Marina is probably the only option for daily slip rentals on a first come first served basis unless your staying at LBR. 3. Â Might be some questions about security of possessions in the boat at the Marina, but I'm not sure if it's any different there than anywhere else.?.? 4. Â Shue doesn't have a hard time finding an excuse for "popping the top" on a cold one. Â I like that thinkin'! 5. Â Probably not going to see Zig at Cattail.
Shue - I'd planned on heading north one day, south the next and then just kicking back the others so thanks for verifying the plan.
Thanks again for helpin out the "lurker". I'll have to work on that title.

AGREED!!!!! I also launch daily. Hook the bow and off I go. Don't drop the bimini, just pull the plug. Next day, put the plug in and the ice chest and off we go.

Here's our usual agenda for the Saturday arrival day:
1. Get into town by 5pm 2. Park the boats at the rental house 3. Leave the wives there to unpack 4. Load up a cooler and grab the fishin' stuff 5. Pick-up some 'chovies and head for the docks at Site Six
The boys fish and we take in the late night ramp follies...great way to kick-off a trip...

Quote (gigamurph @ April 02 2008,2:44 pm) | Lots of good advice. Who are you people and what did ya do witht he real HDFers? Â Been a few yearsbut they're right on the LBR situation. They don't even reserve a slip foer ya if you're stayin' there! Â Slipped the boat in at Havasu Marina for $15 a day which da gig thought well worth the money. Just throw the ice chest and mrsgig in and away we went! A few years back there were some problems with the owner/ harbor master bein' a hard-a$$ on hot boaters and some called for a boycott of the place. Have no idea where that stands today. Â ....and if you are RVin', Crazy Horse used to be a greta place to stay. Decent ramp, waterfront campsites, store, showers and heads were clean, and they had a game room for the kiddies and once in awhile would have a DJ for the teens at night. Mind you though; it's been quite awhile since da gigs "roughed it" there! Â On the south end of the lake is Cattail Cove and Sandpointe. Not too bad but used to be a little on the "primitive" side. Again, been ages since we were there. Don't know if that helped any; just hope it didn't confuse ya anymore than da gig is right now! Â |
Maybe it's time for another trip. LBR will reserve slips, but it'll cost ya. Boat slip in Havasu Marina for $15. They're charging more than that to launch.

And if I remember correctly, the big stink over the marina was their 'visual db meter'. Once the sound ordinace was in place anyone who looked to be too loud to the staff wasn't allowed to launch there. You really are a stud boat expert if you can tell what a boat's idle db readings are while it's still on the trailer. Now, I've never been hasseled by the staff there, but if I recall correctly, that was the bycott.

Hell man; da gig remembers launchin' at Havasu Marina for $2! Does that tell y'all how old this ol' fart is? ....and the last time da gig launched there it cost 'im $9! Does that tell y'all how long it's been since da gig been to Havazoo? Yeppie; $15 a day. Ya gotta remember that da gig only runs a 17 footer so's I's qualify for one of the dinghy slips! Does that tell y'all how busted da gig is?

Exactimundo! How did that deal ever work out? The last I heard anything about the situation was the LHC council was tryin' to reel 'im in a bit; and that was way back in '03.
